Most Hispanic voters want their kindred to get here the same way they did...legally.

Por favor, Andres.

Xenophobic? Uh, no. Intelligent. I've said it before and I'll say it again:

We are a sovereign nation in a time of war. What makes you think we do not have the right, much less the responsibility, to enforce our borders?

Xenophobia: lacking sufficient public zeal in your xenophillia.

Most U.S. hispanic citizens also want the borders controlled. Therefore all we have to do is close the borders and make sure non-citizens aren't allowed to vote.
Simple.

I'll stick with him.

If the Party had been making a major noise and working its heart out to keep the borders secure lo those many years ago, "Hispanic" voters wouldn't be a problem now.

Uh-huh.

I'd wager I know, work with and serve more Hispanics than this guy and he doesn't have a clue.

There is no firm consensus on the issue among Hispanics. Actually, in my experience U.S. citizens that consider themselves such, or that came here through legal means, want enforcement. Those that consider mexico still their home, or are illegal, tend to be against enforcement. Shocking, I know. ;-)

It may tip a little more in favor of open borders, but not by a lopsided margin of 90-10. Maybe closer to 60-40 in favor of open borders, and that may be too generous in favor of open borders. Since the GOP got in the 40% of support for elections, I don't foresee real loss.

I think there is something to the point, because despite what we often hear, I don't believe that Hispanic voters want to stop illegal immigration. Every time someone does something to curtail it, they go bananas.

Judging from the xenophobic measures proposed by conservative Republicans in Congress last week, many Latino voters will think twice before casting a vote for Republicans in the 2006 congressional elections.

For these truth twisters America is xenophobic when it demands legal immigration only. As it is, Mexico hogs the legal immigration slots and sends us the most. Our legal immigration policy is insanely tilted toward illiterate, non English speaking Hispanics and the 3rd worlders in complete disrespect of the Europeans who settled, planned and built America. With help from Indians and Blacks too.
Millions of educated English speaking Europeans would love to immigrate here

Hispanics are a footnote in American history. They were busy with their Spanish colonies most of which are complete messes today

I am a Hispanic Republican voter. My mother was born in Cuba (pre-Castro) and later attended the 1964 Republican Convention as a delegate for Goldwater. I grew up steeped in Republican and particularly conservative values.

The idea that Hispanics are a monolithic voting blocks is ridiculous. Many legal Hispanics are vehemently opposed to illegal immigration or anything that smells like amnesty. It is very likely that there is a huge overlap between this type of Hispanic and the Hispanics that are already voting Republican. The Hispanics that favor weak borders, amnesty for illegals and more socialism are likely to already be voting for Democrats.

If the Republicans want to see this Hispanic abandon the Republican Party they can just go ahead and pass a guest worker shamnesty. If that happens, I can think of two Republican Senators I will actively be working to defeat. And while I will continue to remain registered Republican so that I can return postage free RNC envelopes stuffed with RINO pesos and nasty notes, and so that I can vote for Tancredo in the primaries, the GOP can forget about me in the general election because I'll be voting for the Conservative Party.

Patriotic Americans of every ethnic background understand the need to secure our borders.

U.S. Constitution Article 4 Section 4:

"The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government,

and shall protect each of them against Invasion;"

Invasion: \In*va"sion\, n. [L. invasio: cf. F. invasion. See Invade.] [1913 Webster]

1. The act of invading; the act of encroaching upon the rights or possessions of another; encroachment; trespass.

You know I don't really give a rat's behind what hispanic voters want, after all they are still a minority (if we close the borders now).

So securing our borders and enforcing our laws is now xenophobic? How utterly inflamatory and ridiculous!! God forgive me but I am truly starting to HATE liberals with a passion. I used to feel sorry for them and pity them for their stupidity but I am really beginning to hate them for it...

So, should we drop the war on terrorism and let Al Quaeda roam free in the U.S. bombing as they please simply to appease the Muslims and keep the Muslim vote?

In the 1800's, we should have never opposed slavery as we desired the votes of the southern states. Right?

For what does it profit a political party to gain more votes but lose its soul?

Looks like the Rats are continuing with their racist politics. They are linking citizens and legal aliens from Hispanic ethnic backgrounds with illegal aliens and criminals with similar backgrounds.

The only solution to the reduce illegal immigration will be launching a European Union-styled "Community of the Americas" in which Washington would offer aid to Latin American countries in exchange for commitments of economic discipline and free-market policies.

A European Union-styled "Community of the Americas" I agree would solve poverty in Latin America since with free movement of people there won't be any left down there once they all march northward into the US.

Then I suppose to solve that little problem this author will urge a "Community of the World" to merge us with the remaining wealthy nations so they too can be plundered. What a brilliant plan.
