Senate Coverage -- (December '05)
Thomas ^ | 12-12-05 | US Congress

Posted on 12/12/2005 10:36:51 AM PST by OXENinFLA

Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).

So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.

If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.

Here's a few helpful links.

C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.

C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.

C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.

C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.

OR FEDNET has online feed also.

A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).

THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]

Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority

And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.

Dear Senator DeWine:

It is always refreshing to see a Senator vote his own mind as you have done regarding cloture for the Defense spending bill. It allows us to make a clear decision when voting. Unfortunately, since I am not a constituant, I am unable to partake in your election campaign. Solace can be found however in voting against my own two senators here in Wisconsin and knowing that I will have an opportunity to send money to your opponent in your next election.

Contact Numbers for Bill Frist: 202-224-3344 (voice) 202-228-1264 (fax) Make them STAY! The Senate must be in session on Christmas DAY!

Quit whining. Quit surrendering with out a fight. Some Freepers are EXACTLY why nothing gets done. They always advocate surrender the minute things get tough. Get off out butts and FIGHT for once. NO Clouter means NO CHRISTMAS BREAK. MAKE THEM STAY!

I understand that, which is why I mentioned Chafee and DeWine first. Frist had no choice once it was determined that they didn't have the 60 votes necessary.

Conference reports aren't debateable, so the Senate cannote conduct internal negotiation on the DoD Appropriations Bill, beyond agreeing to vote on it as it is constituted.

Technically, debate is open on the bill, but as a practical matter, the option of amending (unilaterally) is not available. The talker on C-SPAN2 said the house would be in tomorrow. If not, they do have dates between Christmas and 2006 listed on the calendar.

AP reporting that there may be a deal on the Patriot Act.

The report sounds like passing as constituted, with a promise by Specter to bring up separate bills early next year to make some of the changes demanded by those opposed.

Says he is not worried about the PA in the hands of Bush .. his worry is in the hand of a President Clinton

Then Craig says he would agree to 3 month extention .. but not 1 year

HELLO!!!
