Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority
And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
Frist is up now
Oh goody, here I go. LOL. Will let you know how it turns out.
Sorry, I missed Schmuckie...(well, I am not sorry, but) I don't know what he said...
IF he talked about anything "illegal" regarding getting information, HE needs to be laughed off the floor.
Well, that well-known MENSA member Maria Cantwell up complaining about inclusion of a liablity limit to pharmaceutical companies that develop vaccines...
So she would rather have a pandemic, without vaccines, then give the companies any liability protection...
I missed Frist, what did he say?
Went outside a few hours ago and shoveled off the walk. Came back in and Barbara Botox was babbling incoherently.
Heads Up .. VP Cheney is due to be in the Senate tomorrow in case his vote is needed for the vote on Senate Rule 28 with regard to the ANWR Drilling in the Conference Report
He's really covering all the topics, ain't he
He is also boring me to tears
The extent of lying is even more pronounced because 1) They're going on vacation and 2)They're losing!
Mary is back up begging for money
Boy is Landrieu laying it on thick...
Talking about how she was at home with her kids..there in Washington today...singing Christmas carols...and wrapping Christmas presents (but, she says they are lucky to find tape)...BUT,
poor, poor, New Orleans is NOT going to have a Merry Christmas...blah, blah...
BUT, did you hear Durbin say that the 38 BILLION that is in this bill to pay for levee and other repairs in NO..is just a DOWN PAYMENT....and that it would be criminal for the levees NOT to be built to cat 5 strength BY the federal government...
When he was saying that, I kept remembering the reports right after the Hurricane that said that Congress had ordered those levees to be strengthened and even given mucho money to do it...which ended up in casinos and other projects...
SO...I would say that New Orleans owes US for that part.
BTW, Dick Turbin's cellphone went off earlier today on the Senate floor. Did some FReeper get a hotline to his cellphone? Whoever it was, it shut his pie-hole.
Fristmastime!!!!!
Senate: Wednesday, Dec 21, 2005
9:00 a.m.: Convene and resume consideration of the conference report to accompany S. 1932, the Omnibus Deficit Reduction bill.
Previous Meeting
Tuesday, Dec 20, 2005
The Senate convened at 9:45 a.m. and adjourned at 8:59 p.m. No record votes were taken.
Darn they showed up. Just kidding. Frist up.
FRISTMAS TIME----If only Frist has been effective enough all this year to warrant a "fake holiday" named after him...
Maybe today is the day.
Reid talking about "Orwellian doublespeak." No doubt the theme for next year's Democratic Convention.
Funny thing happened to me yesterday.
When I got home from work there was a package of Christmas presents sitting on my porch.
Now, I'm sure you're saying , "What's wrong with that? Oxen doesn't like getting a box full of gifts?"
Well I don't like getting a box full of gifts that I bought and were supposed to be shipped to my family up in IL!!
UPS shipped the package to the return address.
