ElBaradei: "You cannot use force to prevent a country from obtaining nuclear weapons."
Aftenposten via Jerusalem Post ^ | 11 Dec 05 | None

"You cannot use force to prevent a country from obtaining nuclear weapons. By bombing them half to death, you can only delay the plans," he was quoted as saying by the Oslo newspaper Aftenposten. "But they will come back, and they will demand revenge."

I'm all for it, if it would work. But it is just as likely that such threats would result in more Iranians supporting their government.

"Given the accuracy of our intel on Iraqi weapons programs, what makes you think we CAN take out the Iranian programs?"

And exactly where has that accuracy or inaccuracy been established? BBC? New York Times? CBS?

Well, I guess if "we" can't find the targets, "we" will have to wait for....oh, say the IDF.....to point the way so our poor ol' dumb and blind selves can go help take care of business.

I personally don't think that nukes will be required, that the impact on civilians in Iran will be minimal and that the Iranian nuke weapons program will be history within the thirty days after the Iraqi elections are certified. (Saw a brief note this morning that the IDF had been officially told to deal with this by March, so I'll allow 10-15 days variation.........but only on the minus side.)

IMHO, all ElBaradei has done is tell his buddies to get their heads down, 'cause the stuff is shortly to hit the fan.

Should Iran be allowed "one free American city" before we retaliate?

Liberals would say that you better stop after the first, the second, the third,,,,,,,,,,,etc.

The Carthaginians have'nt been much of a problem for Rome for the past 1,800 years.

Are you seriously claiming that our intel on Iraqi WMD programs was good?

It objectively was not. Of course, neither was that of anybody else.

I'm not dissing the military. Give them coordinates of the Iranian nuclear capability, and it will shortly be history.

But our intelligence capability in this part of the world has been dismal for decades, making it likely that we won't have accurate coordinates for them to attack.

How could you leave out Nelson "Winnie, fire up the necklace!" Mandela?

I'd really LOVE to rehash the whole WMD/missing WMD thing, but sifting through BS this soon after I eat lunch screws up my disposition for the rest of the day. :-D

I will merely observe that, IMHO our own MSM has such a total emotional involvement in that issue that they wouldn't acknowledge the existence of an Iraqi WMD if it grew teeth, leaped into the air and bit them on the arse. Claiming that the whole world's security and intelligence services couldn't therefore detect them is just an intuitive hop, skip & jump.

"But our intelligence capability in this part of the world has been dismal for decades, making it likely that we won't have accurate coordinates for them to attack."

As I recall, I said I thought that the IDF, the US or all of the above would most likely clean up this situation in from 15 to 30 days of the certification of the Iraqi elections.

Want to bet a beer on it?

Very good, ElBaradei takes the French route and refuses to address the real problem and bends over to drop trou.

UN there's the answer to certain failure and assured ineptitude. At least in NJ one can "piss away" 73 mil to get elected to the countries most corrupt state since 1920's Illinois, the real question is why do we give a crap what the UN or it's agents say about anything?

Israel isn't the only ones that would lose under that scenario. Their retaliatory strike would be catastrophic. That region stands to lose millions of innocent lives if the mullahs acquire nuclear weapons, both in Israel and in Iran.

Taking it for what it's worth, this is a good argument for taking out Saddam's regime. Didn't the Israelis bomb his atomic facility? Didn't HE demand revenge?

I don't bet.

I also don't see what leads you to believe that our intelligence services are on top of things in the Middle East.

I do, however, hope you are right, both about the efficiency of our intel and about pending effective attacks on Iran.
