I'm a custody lawyer. I have started using "Christmas break" instead of winter break unless one of the parents is not Christian. I just did one where both I and the opposing counsel are active, practicing and even conservative Christians. Both clients profess and belong to conservative rather than mainstream churches. I started to cut and paste from the local guidelines and then rewrote the whole thing to add "Christmas." It's the little things.
Well, I'm not going to fight with you but pretending that the ACLU is not dispropotionately Jewish or that there are just as many Conservative Jewish journalists as there are Liberal Jewish journalists is inaccurate from my obeservations....let alone Jewish voting stats in the modern history with the exception of Reagan 84.
Yes, there are some fine Jewish Conservatives out there and we have a number of this forum but they are a small minority. So small that I especially enjoy them when I see them and try to take note of them.
what is unfortunate is that loud Jews with airtime get to attack Christmas whether in the ACLU or with Abe Foxman or just as a talking head and that has never set well with folks anymore than if I tried to relegate your particular holidays.
that does not mean that only Jews do this or that most support this but it appears to me that those who do are not so much "freedom of religion" as they are anti-Christian
I don't want to fight with you and I'm tired of having to qualify everything I say by noting exceptions
I'm quite fond of Jews and find them arguably the most engaging demographic in the West but I probably don't share precisely the same ideology with most but I try to be civil about it
I have had a number of Israeli pals over the years and this stuff never came up....course that was the 80s. They did my celebrations and I did their's.
I almost walked out of my RCIA (Catholic Convert class) when the lay teacher said that the Jews didn't find an empty country when they went up into the Promised land, they conquered the people that lived there already because they thought that's what God wanted them to do. And that maybe these Muslims think that what God wants them to do is to go into a mall with a bomb strapped on and blow themselves up.
Believe me, I'm going through this class because I want to be Catholic, but I know what I'm talking about, I know my Torah, and I know Catholic Doctrine, and we understand that the Jews were reluctant to invade the Promised Land and kill the inhabitants, and because of that they got to wander in the desert for forty years.
I wish I had had the courage to stand up and say "Balderdash" and walk out. Not on the church, but on that lady.
Huh?
By journalists I assume he meant opinion writers.
Have you seen many Jewish opinion writers railing against Christmas Trees" or wishing someone a Merry Christmas?
Yes, Foxman and the like make a lot of noise and get disproportionate press.
But then to extrapolate from the few Foxman's to the "Jewish Grinch" is a too far stretch for me to take.
Years ago when at the Harvard B School, in a class full of Gentiles no one volunteered to play Santa- so my brother did.
Jews, I do not believe are the reason for this "culture war". We are facing an enemy which would like to replace the laws of God with their own laws. This loss of religion would be the destruction of the country.
The "laws of man" change with the whims of man.
Could be a funding thing in the long run..
Thanks for the ping!
Thanks for the alert. You know you get so busy you forget to thank friends for gifts. I read this article first thing and forgot to thank FD. A belated thank you for the article.
Local radio host was reading some ratings figures for last year and Charlie Brown Christmas was like the 8th top rated program for all of 2004, so don't be discouraged. Several other Christmas programs were in the top 20.
The fantasy is that all is well. This is an outgrowth of the banning of public prayer, this is what it's come to, and this is why people get worked up about it.
That line of reasoning worked so well for us in regards to the movie industry. Us Christians stopped going to movies back in the '60s because they were getting so bad. Yep, Hollywood straightened right out, and movies got more and more wholesome over the next several decades as a result.
Oh, wait, that isn't what happened, is it?
This is a very telling statement. The ACLU, along with many civil rights groups, didn't recognize victory when they won. As a result, they continue to tilt at windmills as their cases get farther out of the mainstream and more and more bizarre.
Judges don't need a majority to essentially create law.
Decisions are appealed. Appellate decisions are made by the majority. Up to the Supreme Court, Gentiles are in the majority.
Being Gentile doesn't make one pro-Christian. Gentiles were in the majority when the courted voted that it was okay to kill unborn babies in 1972.
Liberal Jews have turned their backs to Moses. Conservative Jews have not...
Does the story of a golden calf mean anything to you?
But, I'm afraid I'm not one of those on the "They're Stealing My Christmas Underpants" bandwagon (relax, it's a South Park reference).
While I celebrate Christmas to the max (taking this year off from the National Lampoon light display 'cause I just need a break), and while my family and I are in the midst of a 19 performance run of our church Christmas producation, and while we'll be at communion on Christmas Eve and services on both Christmas Day AND New Year's, this really doesn't bother me.
Nothing of how the secular world treats Christ or Christmas has anything to do with who Christ is or what He did for us (and continues to do).
Christians in other countries are dying for their faith. If the worst I have to endure is "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas" then I am blessed indeed.
If I can't endure that level of "persecution" then may God have mercy on my soul if I'm ever faced with a real test.
If all the Jews had believed in Christ, the word of God would never have been preached to the Gentiles for their conversion.
God must know what He's doing. 8~)
