If the choice is McCain or Hillary, I'll take McCain.

Hillary will sell this country down the river faster than any socialist in the country.

A lot of us don't like or trust McCain and aren't particularly delighted with his form of Republican lite.

But in all honesty, isn't it better to have McCain than a Hillary in office? Do you really want socialized medicine? Higher taxes? Coddling terrorists?

And to those who say they just won't vote, you may as well just hand the presidency to Hillary.

If it were between McCain and Hillary - I would have to vote for McCain. That is the only reason I would ever vote for him.

Let's put Kyl out in front of the public to see what a real conservative looks like.

Kyl is not nuts like McCain, he has a certain stable aura about him.

Work hard to defeat McCain. He will be the worst president since Jimmy Carter.

Still waiting for your responce after you wanted "proof" that McCain voted the "right way" on key issuses to justify his 80% lifetime conservative score.

McCain may be an arrogant media whore, but his voting record on the issues is FAR better than ANY Democrat Governor or Senator -- INCLUDING Zig Zag Zell Miller.

When the people who SUPPOSEDLY hate McCain over Campaign Finance Reform start condemning Zig Zag Zell for having the SAME position on that issue, then they might have SOME crediblity.

Until then, the "I hate McCain" crowd simply gives folky southern RATs a pass as long as they endorse Bush and CLAIM to be conservative.

It's sad that some so-called "conservatives" on this board would support an abortion-loving marxist (Hillary, Warner, etc.) over McCain. If they prefer marxists so much, they should join the RAT party and be done with it.

I think that the only way I would ever vote for John McCain is if I held my nose while I ate a turd.

An 80% conservative lifetime rating????

You mean open-borders McCain, the guy who abhors the 1st, 2nd, 9th, & 10th Amendments, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a member of the Keating 5, & a guy w/ a temper comparable to the mouth of Howard Dean? The John McCain who said "Thank God & Greyhound he's gone" when a patriot named Pat Buchanan left the GOP due to its sustained leftward/internationalist shift?

Some conservative, alright. (GAG!)

Bottom line: there's a big difference between authoring the assault on the First Amendment and supporting it.

Besides, I'm not being asked to vote for Zell Miller, am I?

McCain is nothing but a RINO who panders to the Liberal media. Once you recognize that simple reality, you'll have that much-vaunted credibility of which you speak.

And one more thing, sport: don't spam me with the same bullcrap on two different threads. Y'got that?

Free Republic Opinion Poll: How would you vote if it's Hillary vs McCain in 2008?

Member Opinion
McCain 47.7% 1,035
Third party 27.6% 599
Undecided/pass 11.4% 248
Sit it out 10.8% 235
Hillary 2.4% 51

Composite Opinion
McCain 48.4% 1,454
Third party 27.0% 812
Sit it out 10.1% 303
Undecided/pass 10.0% 299
Hillary 4.5% 136

At least 51 registered “Freepers” on this board OPENLY support VOTING for the Hilderbeast over McCain.

An additional 235 freepers on record as "staying home” and REFUSING cast a vote for a pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, anti-Michael Moore candidate (even if that person is NOT McCain!) over the pro-abortion Marxist Hilderbeast, just to spite the GOP and elect Hillary if McCain is the nominee.

To the 286 “freepers” who have no qualms letting the Hilderbeast win an election over a pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun ally of the war on terror, I suggest your switch parties. There are a lot of “conservative” Democrats who will similarly claim to oppose Hillary but support her evilness when forced to pull the level on Election Day.

>> Thanks very much for answering my questions. I will be giving your answers a good deal of thought. Much obliged! <<

Ha! Nice reply -- too bad you didn't actually DO it.

Apparently you didn't bother to read ANY of the answers. I waited to see you give an intelligent response to what parts you disagree with and why but that was too hard, eh? I guess your “rebuttal” when you don’t get the “answers” you expect is too simply IGNORE the facts and just continue the SAME claims regardless of what his record actually is.

I went over your little questionnaire in detail and gave you McCain's EXACT position on EVERY "conservative" issue YOU wanted (war on terror, abortion, etc.), and indeed, he was on the "right" side of 80% of the questions YOU asked about. That's not my opinion, that's his actual tally on your own criteria sheet. The big sore spot was immigration, where McCain is an open-borders idiot (just like Bush, I might add)

You say McCain "abhors" the 2nd amendment. The people who really do "abhor" the 2nd amendment -- like the Brady campaign -- CERTAINLY don't agree or they would have endorsed McCain. They've endorsed plenty of gun-grabbers who got A ratings from the anti-gun groups but they gave McCain an "F" rating. He voted against anti-gun bills 86%-100% of the time. Of course to realize that, you'd actually have to READ my post after demanding I give you all that information. How dare the facts get in the way of your “McCain hates all guns” rhetoric, eh?

You bashing McCain for being on the Council of Foreign Relations is another example of other “conservatives” doing the same thing as McCain and getting a “free pass” here from the hate McCain crowd. Oh, I guess it’s okay for Zig Zag Zell Miller to work his butt off to sponsor and pass McCain-Feingold as long as he didn’t “write” the bill. It’s okay for him to vote for hate crimes too, right? We’ll only denounce him for it if he changes his name to “John McCain” I guess.

A lot of your rhetoric is simply baseless (“McCain hates the 9th and 10th amendment, McCain has a mouth like Howard Dean”). As for McCain’s statement about Buchanan’s move to get in bed with Ross Perot’s deformed party, I agreed with McCain and apparently about 99% of other GOP voters also did. If wanted to join the like of Lenora Fuliani, good riddance. Perhaps you might want to look at how many votes Buchanan got after hanging out with Fulani and joining a pro-abortion party while complaining the GOP wasn’t pro-life enough.

You know the Arnold bots really love when you lump pro-life, pro-family, and pro-gun people in with true RINOs like Lincoln Chafee and Schwartzenegger. By calling ANYONE you dislike – regardless of their record – a “RINO”, then true RINOs get away scot free with their liberal records by dismissing their critics as being narrow-minded fools who will hate them no matter what their record is. In your case, it happens to be true.

Thanks for wasting my time by demanding a full list of all McCain’s “positions” when you had no plan to actually READ it in the event the facts conflicted with your “McCain is evil incarnate” stereotype. Next time, don’t waste my time by demanding “proof” you plan to ignore, okay?

No. If McCain were to repudiate the destruction of the 1st amendment he co-sponsored as a supposed reform of campaign financing and he were to come out with an unmistakeably strong stand on the 2nd amendment I could hold my nose and vote for him. Otherwise I don't know why I would vote for him just because he might get the Republican nomination.

Many years ago, the local Jaycees used to run a chicken defecation contest. A surface with numbered squares would be put under a chicken and the winner was whoever bet on the first square where the chicken would ....

You get the idea.

Now, we can run commentator defecation contests, to see where the various commentators would ...

You get the idea.

>> McCain Feingold was a deal breaker for me. I don't forgive and forget. I hold grudges against those who would take my liberty. Too many -- even here -- listen on to pleasing sounding words, but never look at what these pols do or how they vote. Words, especially those at a fund raiser, are mostly meaningless. People -- even here -- don't realize that the GOP isn't really asking their opinion in order to guide GOP policy when they get those little questionaires. What they are doing is mining for information so that they can send a red meat letter to you that hits on your hot button issues in order to open up your wallet. Republicans are swayed by emotion too. Sometimes we are just better at finding a rational explanation for our decisions. Sometimes not. <<

If McCain-Feingold was the deal-breaker for you and you won't vote for McCain or Zell Miller because of it, that's a perfectly honorable and principled position to take. Impeachment was the deal breaker for me and there's no way in hell I will ever vote for Clintonite Congressman Pete King, I don't care how many times that idiot "defends Bush" on MSNBC. I don't forgive and forget him either. King is a panderer who loves whoever is in power at the time.

Add Prime Choice to the list of freepers who "listen to words, but never look at what these pols do or how they vote." Compare post #332 where he asks for an extensive list of McCain's positions and voting records and post #368 where he gets pissed off after I gave him precisely that and asked for his take on McCain's record. (which, BTW, he had promised to review and get back to me on)

It a damn shame becuase his anti-Arnold posts are based entirely around Arnold's liberal, pro-Democrat record instead of ad hominid attacks like "Arnie's a NAZI".
