beverage temps were a big topic of conversation when I lived at Rhinedahlen......ours were always boiling hot (coffee & tea) or brain freeze cold (beer, soda, wine, hi-balls, etc.)....I got the feeling that we overused ice for my Brittish guest's taste :)
I like beer chilled but not freeze cold and I cannot stand ice cubes in anything all it does IMHO is dilute the taste of the drink.
