If every channel cost the same, that would imply subsidizing. What you just described is a free market. Not the situation we have now. The only way buying a more expensive channel would subsidize a lesser expensive channel is if the parent company of a more expensive channel owned a lesser expensive channel.

The only way buying a more expensive channel would subsidize a lesser expensive channel is if the parent company of a more expensive channel owned a lesser expensive channel. There are very few channels now that aren't part of a larger family, and likely all the channels you're interested in fall into that category.
