"If it was true that, prior to the Iraq War, 100,000 children were dying annually due to UN sanctions, then why are they not now pointing out that the Iraq War put an end to that horrific number of deaths"

Because they're liberals. Even the old claim smears the US, since US fought to keep the sanctions ongoing.

But do not discount that the the "Peace Activists" could be in colusion with the terrorists or at least planned this end. As sick as it may be, and as rumors have it, they may have gone to Iraq looking for exactly this situation.

Right. Until they kill one of the activists, it is prudent to remain suspicious of a possible hoax. More bad news for the captives...they are reaping what they sowed.

HHKrepublican_2:

I don't think you paraphrase SJSAMPLE's post accurately. His/her comments were that the "irony is delicious." And guess what? I agree. Know why? These idiots went to Iraq to protest against the coalition presence there. They were undermining the work of the military. Now, their organization wants the coalition to rescue these fools.

How did you miss the irony in the entire situation?

So in other words the Bush administration...

Not that I can see, and so what is your point. A line in the sand being a clearly delineated point that should any syrians or iranians find themselves dead, injured, captured or proven alive in Iraq and there for the purpose of continuing, contributing, provoking, or furthering terrorism, the host country will bear the full brunt of whatever it is that the USA deems righteous punishment for allowing their citizens to actively sew the seeds of disorder destruction dismemberment, death, and a host of other d's in a country other than their own.

Such a line should have been drawn, but I have not seen one. Nor will I until the line is crossed to the point that it will happen, and when that is, only the Bush administration knows, and since they are in charge...

What's a shad?

Like an endangered snail-darter. Threadfin shad populations have been on a steady decline, likely due to global warming. The schools of shad in Texoma alone have dwindled to mere billions.

I think your right Alia, these are common thugs looking for ransom. They snagged a bunch of Caucasians thinking they were someone somebody gave a shit about instead of a bunch of peace freaks. Betcha they turn them loose in the name of Islam.

So, since these "peace activists" have vehemently condemned the U.S. actions in Iraq, I guess they would have to agree that their own deaths are justified.

Islam - religion of peace and tolerance.

Reminds me of a Japan/Middle-East "activist kidnapping" story 'bout a year ago:

some bad, bad Middle-East kidnappers were threatening to kill some Japanese woman who would wail away dramtically on cue on videotape --"Waa waa waa! I don't want to die...! Help me, Japan...!".

They were going to kill her. All of Japan was consumed with the story.

They looked into the matter further; the woman turned out to be a leftist, and she had a long history of contacting various Mid-Eastern baddies in the past.

A total set-up.

The woman was not the kidnappee --the government and media of Japan was.

She was an instigator, and her release was PAID FOR. Ummm...let's just say she wasn't terribly popular upon her return to Japan...

It could be a stunt and the lefties could still wind up shorter by a head. When you play stunts with these people you don't really know what sort of stunt they have in mind. Their tactics and goals might not be in the GivePeaceAChance textbook.

I wonder if they would object if the US Marines stormed the complex, killed the Islamic kidnappers, and rescued them?

Better not risk it. Leave them be.

If it is not a stunt, then they were captured as "spies" because they were wandering around Abu Ghraib asking locals to share with them stories of atrocities commited by American forces. How could local Iraqis believe that these normal[western]-looking westerners were on the side of terrorists and not the American forces. It is no wonder that they were accused of being spies.

I was quoting someone else. My comment was that the American and Brits in this group are guilty of treason.

Interesting point you raise. So, by deposing Saddam and thus enabling the sanctions to be lifted, the US has saved, what, 250,000 children from starvation?
