I drive people for a living. If I have to go to an unfamiliar place, I print a map on Mapquest. I don't have to pore over it and sometimes just know where to go based on direction.

My wife cannot designate north, south, east, and west. Many females I have driven or worked with have the same trouble, making map reading more of a chore. So men use the left side of their brain more, and don't need to ask directions. We have a built in sense of direction and confidence in our ability to find places.

Why don't you just pick up a woman when you get to your destination?

,,, there's always muffled complaints from the trunk when I try that.

You're confusing behavior with the underlying orientation, the underlying desire for same-sex contact that homosexuals experience. So by your logic, a man who really wants to have homosexual sex a lot but happens to never have it (because he decides it would be wrong, or because he's too ugly to get a date on a Saturday night) is not homosexual.

Pedophilia? Bestiality? Masturbation? Masochism?

Perversion is a choice...

One thing I have read and tend to believe:

Men say something in order to get something done, accomplish a goal. For instance, a man comes home from work to turmoil in the home and yells: "Could I please have some peace and quiet for 5 minutes, dammit."

Women, on the other hand, say things in order to express their feelings; from which a skilled man (or a psychic one, which seems to be what women expect) is expected to derive (hopefully) what his appropriate response should be, in order to address the emotional need of the woman and help her reach her "goal", whatever that may be (the man taking out the trash, or whatever.)

A bit oversimplified, but this concept conforms to the notion that "Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus', and they communicate, generally and naturally, in very different ways.

And this inherent general complementarity and (difference) between the two sexes is something to be acknowledged and embraced, and will inevitable help both members or a couple to become closer and understand each other better...

Women's predilection is to deal with the immediate, and so the Left-Right orientation [subjective] are preferable. Men's predilection is to get out of the immediate, and so the more objective North South East West orientation is preferable. This is not the limit of the abilities of either sex, just a preference.

Incidedntally, the bromide about some men not wanting to ask for directions is not about orientations. It is the man's reluctance to involve himself in relations of potential dependence. This relates back to the male predilection for the objective rather than the subjective and immediate [if you are dependent on someone else "saying" or providpng orientation, you are still dependent and hence just as lost or immediate as before.]

But this is a trait that varies and some men have no problem asking the "opinions" of others as to orientation, because the man himself remains the judge as to who can be trusted, among other evidences, and so this still amounts to a preference for the objective.

You should consult the larger body of Plato's work regarding the nature of right conduct.

Why do men, for example, refuse to ask for directions while women are busy peering at maps and landmarks during the same automobile journey?

Not true. It is the men who study maps (so they don't have to ask for directions). Whenever I go on a long car trip with my wife, I'm the one looking at the maps.

Hasn't this been proven over and over again beginning with changes prior to birth?

I believe this is a new piece of evidence using functional MRI, that science has a tendency to accumulate, despite the protests of those who believe in various sociological and feminist theories and fantasies which have little or no evidence for their support. IIRC, functional MRI is able to detect deoxyhemoglobin in order to show which areas of the brain were consuming more oxygen, i.e. which areas of the brain had more activity.

Thank you. I recall reading about some type of chemical reaction that happens to the developing brain, in utero, that literally causes changes between a female and male brain.

I look at maps if I have one handy and have absolutely no problem asking for directions. I guess I'm in touch with my feminine side.
