Those of us who said not to take in refugees, even those referred by a church, were roundly crticized here a few months ago.
there have been many stories where evacuees who were giving free housing - even in places most people would consider to be paradise - were completely ungrateful about it.
I guess some people can't abide by having it 'good' if it's unfamiliar to them - so they revert back to the lackluster conditions they're comfortable with.
It is a sad statement to say you were correct. This family traveled to Maryland ... that is long distance ingratitude.
Only an idiot would think this 'family' was representative of most evacuees.
These people were trash, but many more who have been helped are extremely grateful. Those who help understand that there is some risk, yet they help anyway. They make this country better, not some keyboard blowhard.
And you should have been. Most of these people are getting their life back together, some are problems. It wasn't the well to do who needed help and to expect not to have any problems is foolish. These people are trash, most are not.
Being in Houston I've seen hundreds making a go of it, and a few who need their rears kicked. I will not ignore the many because of the few or be put off by those who will bitch rather than help. BTW I'm in Louisiana just now, helping a couple of people put their business back together, want to come help, I assure you they are good ones.
