Do you have a source for that data?
Illegal immigrants do a lot of jobs that we would not be able to find enough Americans to fill in agriculture, lodging, construction, food service, etc. You aren't going to find enough people who want to go out and pick grapes and fruit all day in the sun, or enough people who want to clean up all those motel rooms. If we lost all those workers then companies would have to pay much higher wages to attract American workers and still wouldn't find enough of them. The higher costs would force higher lodging, restaurant, and housing prices, which would then result in reduced business and the loss high-paying jobs in management, IT, and sales that Americans now fill.
Deportation of millions of guest workers is a crazy idea that would generate massive inflation and recession just before a presidential election in 2008. Freepers are generally smart on most issues, but I read a lot of crazy, uninformed posts about immigration.
What other laws should we stop enforcing? I mean, why reward only the criminal invaders from Mexico. Good, decent American criminals should be at least equally rewarded. How about excusing all tax evasion and other related crimes? Heck, how about excusing armed robbery while we're at it. Rape? Sure. Murder? Why not. It is just way too impractical to prosecute and incarcerate so many criminals anymore. I mean, what would happen if we took every criminal off the street? There's all kinds of societal and employment problems that would cause. I'm with you - let's raise the white Murtha flag and surrender to the criminals. I'm sure that our whole nation will be so much better off.
