the real driver are the corporate political contributions from those who benefit from cheap illegal labor. It is these companies and their officers who should be investigated, fined, and convicted, and jailed.

Agreed but it takes a lot more than just hitting a couple of high profile companies (e.g., Walmart). And people have to be willing to suck up the higher prices... starting with landscaping, construction, hotel/motel rates, dinners on the town, the cost of clean rest rooms, etc, etc. This all takes time and considering the economy that Bush inherited is there any wonder that he didn't immediately decide to further encumber business by forcing them to pay higher wages to legals? If anyone is serious about addressing this problem they have to have the patience to see it through and "complete the mission" and not fall prey to cheap one-liners about shipping them all back.

The people have demonstrated their willingness and ability, to absorb a price shock, by paying for higher gas prices these last several months; and, it is not the bottom rung on the economic spectrum that worries about the costs of services at the Marriot country club.

I'd be perfectly happy to pay an extra 25 cents per pound on chicken parts if it meant that American citizens were getting paid a living wage to cut those birds apart. You know those surveys that ask, "Are you willing to pay more for better quality products?" Well, I'm one of those folks that will save up a bit more to pay a bit more for an item that will last longer. I'm willing to pay a bit more for an economy that will last longer .... one built on decent wages paid to my fellow citizens. Hell, I guess my neighbor might have to even mow his lawn or clean his pool himself, or maybe make his teenager do it. Or get it done less frequently.

My oh my, how did we ever afford all the above before the flood of illegals?

If I recall correctly, there were more affordable homes built without the illegal labor pool than now. How many of the new construction palaces of today can be afforded by a single blue collar wage earner?
Were the occupancy rates at hotels/motels any lower or rooms less clean than now?
Did the yards not get mowed?

Hell, we supplied not only our own armed forces but those of our allies in the greatest military conflict and afterword's went on to flood the world with consumer products on a scale never witnessed and all without the flood of illegals.

Families, many with only one wage earner, purchased fresh fruits and vegetables.

We survived quite well without the illegals then and we can do so again. Round them up and ship them back!!!

Bull hockey. It's not Wal-Mart - it's Washington that is causing the wage discrepancy.

People complain about Big Oil gouging us on gasoline, when its the government taking 50 cents off the top of every gallon, compared to Big Oils 10 cents.

Similarly people complain of Big Business gouging illegal immigrant workers for low wages, when its a socialist government (Big Government) that's creating the larger proprotion of wage difference between illegals and citizens, through payroll taxes for Income, Medicare, Social Security, Minimum Wages, Disability insurance, insurance liability, and labor protection laws.

The biggest difference in cost to an employer between an illegal and a citizen is mandated by the leftist greed, not business greed.
