Yesterday, George W. Bush strode to a podium in Tucson, Arizona (I love Tucson!) and against a backdrop of law enforcement officers, announced his latest plan to crack down on illegal aliens. There was nothing in his speech we haven't heard before, and his new immigration policy is just as contradictory as the old one. Among the initiatives announced:
We should build more jail cells to hold illegal aliens. Good idea. The speeding up of deportations, a crackdown on fraudulent identity papers, and a hardening of the border with more surveillance. So far, so good. Then the nonsense started to flow. The president urged Congress to pass his guest-worker amnesty program and repeated the nonsense that the illegal aliens are here "to fill jobs that Americans will not do."
Same old, same old. It is impossible to stand there and say you're going to crack down on illegal immigration while at the same time say that you are going to reward people who broke our immigration laws. The president says it's not amnesty. Ok, now we've finally caught the president in a lie. OF COURSE it's amnesty! When you tell someone who has broken the law that you are not only going to ignore their illegal conduct, but you are actually going to reward them for it, then you have more than plain old garden variety amnesty, you have amnesty with perks!
As for the oft-repeated line that the illegal aliens fill jobs Americans won't, that's also a load. Companies may not be able to fill those jobs with Americans at the same low wages they pay Mexicans, but there are plenty of people in this country that would do the work at the right price. OK .. so the price of headless chickens, landscaping and construction might go up, but at least the people receiving those paychecks would be law-abiding residents of this country, most of whom would be citizens. There is something wrong with the idea of celebrating lower home prices when those lower prices are brought with disrespect for the laws of our country. It gets worse than that. We are threatening our very security by singing the praises of illegal aliens in our workforce. Just two weeks ago we were interviewing a Texas congressman who was telling us that U.S. intelligence agencies have knowledge that Al Qaeda terrorists have moved to Mexico, adopted Hispanic identities, learned the Spanish language, and then moved right into the United States across our porous borders.
George Bush failed to address the problem appropriately yesterday, but this isn't strictly a George Bush issue. There is absolutely no willingness on the part of either political party to crack down on illegal immigration. There are simply too many votes to be had in the Hispanic community. So as a result, our security as a nation is threatened and our cities and states are overrun with illegal aliens.
I'm sure representatives of Al-Qaeda are preparing to apply for their guest-worker permits as we speak.
GeeMNJonnie...you might need a set of these...
...and maybe one of these too..., and lots of "Cult of Bush" practice at this...
You "Cult of Bush" losers have shown time and again that Party is more important than Principle...and that blind worship of ONE MAN versus the Laws and Constitiution of America is more important to you.
You are all MORE dangerous than the Klintonistas...because you PRETEND to be on our side!
If Bush tomorrow confiscated all weapons and declared himself President for Life, you all would fall down in orgasms!
Uh I wasn't the one who said tancredo 08, due to a neil boortz(who is pro-abortion and gay marriage) thread.
Maybe you should Freepmail citizen, for associating peo-abortion and gay marriage neil boortz with tom tancredo.
"I'm not changing the subject, if you don't think trial lawyers and unions are part of the modern American health care mess, it is you who is being the quisling."
But it's not the subject of the thread.
Illegal immigration is.
You, in your pathetic attempt that almost everybody sees through, tries to change the subject when the damage caused by illegal aliens is pointed out.
You're pathetic, but we're grateful that you post your claptrap in all these threads. People watching see your lame posts and meager defenses and decide they don't want to be on the same side as you.
Do you actually think your BS convinces anybody that your position is right?
The FROBL side is shrinking, and the pro-border control side is growing larger everyday. And I think you and your ludicrous posts deserve part of the credit.
lol!
You lose Dane
Another stupid strawman. No one here said that trial lawyers and unions are not part of the health care mess. But, then again, that was not the topic of this thread. I'm sure that everyone here would agree that trial lawyers and unions are, in fact, part of the health care mess and employment problems. But, again, that's not the topic of this thread. We're talking about what Bush said about solving the border problem and other problems related to the invasion. Someone used the very salient example of the health care costs caused by illegal aliens and you immediately attempted a campaign of distraction to other issues. But, hey, that's your role here. It's right there in your OBL quisling job description.
Ya know itzy, maybe you should keep your bathroom garments in the bathroom, and not show them out in public, unless you are proud of that, if that's your thang, knock yourself out parading yourself in San Francisco for all I care.
Dane has a whole menagerie of straw men.
Welfare recipients, lawyers, Sen. Clinton, Bush-haters, etc.
JMO, you shouldn't really talk to yourself on an internet forum.
You're a hoot. Is that your version of "I'm rubber, you're glue..." I guess everything you learned about debating an issue you learned in Kindergarten. Right, poopyhead?
I enjoy reading your posts, they make me realize there really are people out there who don't have a clue, and thus have nothing to support their position.
Tell me, why don't we let everyone in the world who wants to come to the USA in and let them work for whatever wages they are willing to work for?
Having a battle of wits with the "Wizard of Bush" Straw Man is really not a fair fight for you...
Just admit that you support Lawbreaking when it's for something that profits you and your ilk, and like Hillary, you believe laws are for OTHER PEOPLE..and that US Sovereignty is NOT worth fighting for...and that you have a stained blue dress in your closet too with GWB DNA all over it!
Weak. You're really grasping at straws now. Give it up, loser.
so I've noticed.....anything to deflect and not answer pointed questions.
Ok let me see if I got this correct, per spiffy logic, spiff admits that trial lawyers and unions are a major problem in the modern American health care mess, but because a thread is only about illegal aliens, and part of the problem of the modern American health care mess, it is not allowed to mention the trial lawyers and unions, and any mention of the trial lawyers or unions elicits a reaction of akin to a person holding up their hands to their ears shouting
"lalalalalala, I don't hear you, this thread is only about illegal aliens, and any mention of the trial lawyers and unions contributing to the health care mess is forbidden".
Is that the spiff official line?

One Year Of Illegal Alien Health Care Costs Would Pay For Border Barrier
Non-citizens cost billions per year in uninsured health care.
Non-citizens are putting the hurt on our hospitals. A study by the Florida Hospital Association estimates that uninsured non-citizens cost the state's hospitals an average of $63,612 per patient last year.
The tab is rising as the number of immigrants continues to swell from coast to coast. The American Hospital Association reported that its member facilities provided $21 billion in uncompensated health-care services last year.
While not all those costs can be attributed to undocumented aliens, new Census data show that non-citizens are, by far, this country's largest group of uninsured residents 43 percent of the total.
The costs of health care are just one way that low skilled low wage immigrant non-citizens cost the US economy and citizens money. Keep in mind that these figures above underestimate even the medical costs of low skilled immigrants because millions of illegals were granted citizenship thru amnesties and a large portion of them are uninsured. Also, the costs above do not include costs at government clinics and private practices or the costs of the US citizen children who are born in the United States to illegal aliens whose parents use Medicaid and other government programs to pay their health care. Even with this narrow definition on the costs of low skilled immigrants for health care the cost for less than a single year of paying the health care of non-citizens would pay for a barrier to keep illegal aliens from crossing into the United States from Mexico. Various cost estimates (see here and here and here) for the West Bank-Israel fence structure , if extrapolated to the longer US border with Mexico, suggest that the US could stop the flow of illegal aliens from Mexico for a cost of between $2 billion and $8 billion dollars. The range of cost estimates reflects the fact that the Israelis are building more and less formidable barriers in different sections depending on perceived risk. If we go for the more deluxe barrier structure for the entire border it would still cost less than a single year of uninsured and unpaid health care bills run up by non-citizens living within the US borders.

Quisling: a synonym for traitor, someone who collaborates with the invaders of his country.
Travis you never disappoint in the theory that some can be read like a book.
One way to get a sense of what the illegal alien population is like is to look at the illegal aliens who were given amnesty in the late 1980s (under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986). This group of almost three million illegal aliens, all of whom had been in the United States since before 1982, was made into legal aliens and has since been surveyed by the federal government. The government study (INS Report on the Legalized Alien Population, M-375, March 1992) found that out of the amnestied illegal alien population:
94 percent had migrated for economic reasons.
55 percent lived in California.
70 percent were from Mexico.
13 percent were from Central America.
74 percent had never been apprehended.
15 percent spoke English.
80 percent used public health services.
49 percent had no health insurance.
Their median age was 32, with an average household of four, seven years education, an hourly wage of $5.45, an annual individual income of $8,982, and annual family income of $15,364.
Remember, at the time of this survey, many of the illegal aliens were well established, having lived in the United States for over ten years. Many less successful illegal aliens would have left the country. The above profile of amnestied illegal aliens represented the most successful people in the illegal alien population. A profile of the overall illegal alien population could be expected to be much worse.
On the basis of this and similar information, estimates can be made of the costs to our society from illegal immigrants. Additional factors must be taken into account for cost estimates, such as the illegal aliens' school-age children (who number roughly 1.3 million) and economic displacement (the roughly 730,000 low-skilled native workers a year who lose their jobs because of competition from illegal alien workers). The total costs are enormous, even after counting to their benefit the tax monies contributed by the illegal aliens (giving the net cost). The net cost of illegal immigration to our society totals more than $24 billion every year.

Actions speak louder than words. The words sounded good, but they are undermined by a continuing lack of action on the part of the administration.
I'm not holding my breath that Bush plans to follow through. With the Trans-Texas Corridor and FTAA in the wings, he has no incentive to control immigration since he wants to create an EU-style arrangement with Canada, Mexico and S. America.
