From Pt. Dume you'd consume at least 5000 feet of range. That would tend to limit the height of the apex.

Today, I got an email from Mr. Hagmann at Northeast Intel Network. In respect to confidentiality, I wont quote his email - only summarize what he said.
He heard the initial broadcast early on Monday morning from the ABC station out of New York. He tried to search for more info on the event, but found nothing.
He spoke to Annie Jacobsen, author of Terror in the Skies about the incident & was assured the incident did take place.
He was directed to KSFO from San Francisco made a pending request for a statement there concerning the reporting of this incident.

I am no missile expert, however, it's my understanding that shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles can reach 15,000 feet. Like the post said, outbound departure traffic out of LAX takes a lot of traffic in the area of Pt. Dume. And northbound traffic takes it very close to the Pt. Dume area. Being only a minute or two out of LAX, a lot of the northbound traffic would certainly not be at 15,000 plus feet at that point.
The bottom line here is if a bad guy wants to bring down a commercial aircraft, it can be done, relatively easily, with a little determination. And a boat is not really necessarry to take out a westbound departure at that specific airport. I imagine even the rocks have eyes around Vista Del Mar.

I would just like to find some other info that sorta verifies what I heard. I haven't read through all the posts on this thread yet (so this might be old news) but I heard exactly the same report this morning on WBZ in Boston at around 7:30.

"I'm just glad this story was worthy enough to be spread elsewhere."
And my point is I see nothing at all worthy of spreading. Sounds like tinfoil territory to me.

FYI, if the flight number is AA621, then the news reports had the airport wrong. The closest that 621 gets to LAX is when it's landing at Orange County from Dallas.

I saw that too. However, I called AA pretending I had a friend on that flight. "Patty" told me that flight 621 landed just moments ago at LAX. The flight originated from Minn to Dallas to what is listed as Orange Co but Patty "confirmed" that the flight landed at LAX. I asked her for flight 621 taking off on 11/27 but she could not access flights from that date. Weird...
Is the airport at Orange Co. considered a part of LAX? I know I'm reaching here but...

SNA is close to LAX but doesn't use the same radio frequencies or flight paths. The aircraft would not fly over the ocean entering to or departing from SNA.

You sure you heard the same news report today - this Tuesday morning? - that would be the first time anyone said that.
It would be nice if one could follow up that report by contacting the radio station.
Any further details that you recall hearing?
To: crghill
Historically Al-Queda never took responsibility for any of their attacks. They tried to keep the issue confused as long as they could.
With the Clinton administration, they had willing accomplices.

I recall specifically the flight departed LAX for the eastern US ......
Unless it was some big mistake, there is no confusing the airport.

I just returned home and came to check on this thread!
Thanks for keeping me posted.
I think I have read it all now and am still...
SOOOOO-CONFUUUSED!!!!!!!!!!!
It seems we are getting some facts and clarification...and some "cover" stories as well as some just plain "stupid" replies to requests for information.
