Anybody know the stats on race and the death penalty?

We always hear it is unfair to blacks, but I never see any statistics to prove it.

I'm happy that this guy was exonerated by DNA evidence. This new scientific advance has made a very good criminal justice system far,far better. It greatly lessens the chances of guilty people getting away with crimes and it also greatly lessens the chances of the innocent being unjustly convicted.

That's just gotta fry your cookies, doesn't it Dr Hurly?

...usually men of color

I myself am a man of color. Kind of a tan, maybe mocha. Definitely not clear. Am I in danger?

My local newspaper had a picture of deaths by race. Overwhelmingly white people, iirc. I'll try to find it.

I actually went to a dump the death penalty web site.

Guy that was writing there said their antics for the past 20 years were not working. Public opinion on the death penalty hadn't budged.

Said what they needed to do was
1) Quit trying to show the soft fuzzy side of killers.
2) Admit that most of them really did it but they still didn't deserve to die.

Notice the subtle racism....

Since most of the imprisoned are "men of color" and most of the victims are "people of color" the only logical conclusion is that homicide of blacks should not be punished.

The story here is that a new technique shows that someone was falsely convicted, and perhaps that the system is not as reliable as everyone wanted to believe and convicted many people falsely. I don't see what this has to do with the death penalty.

I cannot understand why those who are the brightest among us; many of them ardent evolution supporters cannot accept the fact that man is a flawed being. Nothing and I mean NOTHING we ever do is going to have a 100% record of success. The question in every instance from space shuttle flight to issuing prescription drugs to administering justice, including the death penalty, is what percentage of failure are we prepared to tolerate. Success is possible; even a high percentage of success is possible but perfection is not.

I dunno. Why, let's just have the killers sent in to the homes of liberals and see if they're still favor of a moratorium then. Its easy to advocate high-mined principle that costs you nothing when its not your life on the line. Yeah that's the liberal ticket; time for an open season on human beings. And these are the same people who get outraged the thought of people hunting animals. You can guess from their conduct what lives they value more. It sure ain't yours or mine. Oh - and can you say Terri Schiavo? Where was the liberal moratorium on the death penalty when she was starved to death while liberals looked the other way? Truly, for the murderer-loving Left, some lives are more equal than others.

"...proven innocent by DNA evidence..."

Proven innocent or they came up with some DNA that wasn't his and after so long couldn't get enough evidence/witnesses together to retry him?

This coming Monday here in Maryland, they are planning to execute Wesley Eugene Baker, who shot a grandmother to death in a shopping mall in front of her two grand children, all for $8.00.

Witnesses described Baker and the other person in the getaway car, as laughing and giving each other "high-fives" as they drove away.
