I think part of the problem is that none of these "special" people has ever been a waiter, or held any other real-life job. People who've been there are much more likely to be polite to a waiter (and tip an adequate one generously), and to be pleasant to a store clerk, security guard, etc.

(Note to self, make sure all offspring work at least one service job.)

Parents made me either work and/or go to school.

Started as a dish washer for $2.00 an hour 15 years ago. Then moved on to bus-boy/waiter in the Poconos.... Now, I make well over $60.00 an hour and I dont have to work overtime I dont want to... When I started, I didn't believe in hard work because I saw too many privledge people get ahead by cheating.... Now, I can back up my words with deeds, they can not... Hard work wins in the long run. (Now, taxes, that is something else.) BTW, I tip 15% as a base, 20-40% if good service. 10% if bad.

I worked as a security officer and a server to earn some extra money while in college and even after. Working in either one of these jobs actually is a good thing aside from earning money. It is a good experience and helps you to become a good observer of people characteristics. I was in Arkansas most of my adulthood so, I never get a chance to serve those celebrities. Now living in LA, I might try to do it again. After reading all your comments, I am hoping I will get a chance to meet one of these "champions" for the poor. I will most probably say something that will make them feeling guilty,.. if any of this leftist has any guilt.. what with all the superior qualities they think they have inherited. Shame!

Tax-chick,
I would venture to say that Ellen Degenerous (sp.) tips very well as she used to work at a French Quarter rest. Former ones usually do tip well.
