men are far better tippers than women

For the most part I agree. Depends on the setting. If you are a male at say a sports bar and a bunch of guys get you instead of the honey, count on 12% or so if lucky. The worst are groups of women esp black women (don't infer anything just saying). We would bribe the hostess not to take them. I was stiffed or tipped in change many times by women.

That's true. Most always go for government money instead of working hard and getting something out from your own sweat. One thing I don't understand is, they are saying that Red State are poor people, Blue state are rich people while at the same time they are claiming that GOP only helps rich people instead of poor people. Can they go both way? This is obviously two-face hypocrisy here.

Also, if tips money are shared.. they will go to the chefs, busboys, and other servers. The worst part is woking in one of the chinese owned Japanese restaurants because even the owner will get the tips shared. I found out that my employer voted for Democrat.

Great FReepers think alike. If I have to pay with a credit card, or even a debit card, I write in zero on the tip line, but I tip the server in cash.

From the referenced website this is what one waitress says:

"Next time, I'm spitting in the drink and charging double."

You expect me to reward this kind of attitude with a big tip? And look at the picture they are using to sell their t-shirt. Frankly, if they want to work for an employer who pays them sub-minimum wage, how is that my fault?

It's lowly, dirty, and demeaning work

NOT! Service work is not demeaning, or lowly, even if it is sometimes dirty.

God gives us the opportunity to keep our fellow humans alive by feeding them.... Jesus started his ministry as an ad-hoc food and beverage guy at a wedding party. He later preached a sermon on a mount, with fish and bread being the meal that he provided.

Service is sacrament.

I feel pretty strongly about that, for a former engineer/unix geek.

I once knew someone who met Dan Marino and said that he was a down to earth genuinely nice person.

On another occasion I had a conversation with a person who was a waitress in a fancy place and she told me that he was one of the most arrogant condescending diners that she had ever met while in the business.

Did you marry her (or him)?

Nope. :-)

Actually it was in a little coffee shop in Oakland. I was waiting for a nearby store to open so I could buy a slide rule. This was an older lady who was being run ragged by a pack of young punks. After they left, I left her a 50$ tip hoping to brighten her day just a little. (It did :-))

Good for you!

If we can't use money to make others and indirectly ourselves feel good, then what is the point?

:)

This one tips the scale. But I wouldn't put it pasta man like Michael Moore to stiff the waitrons.

They think their mere presence is enough compense to all the "lowly workers

That and they think it is the government's duty, not theirs, to support all those low wage people.

You read my mind. :-)

I took three years out of my life without pay to teach a 5th and 6th grade space science class. (I know tooting my horn now). LOL!

pre-tax, definately. and hubby, who is a very generous tipper, always says you should only tip 10% on the bar/beverage part of the bill

LOL....he is a GENEROUS tipper??

I went out to lunch with an acquaintance yesterday and he stiffed the waitress by leaving her a 10% tip. I won't be going out to eat with him in the future. As somebody pointed out on an earlier posting, if you can't afford to tip your wait staff decently, don't eat out!!

That's what learned as a young man from a lady who was the head waitress at a nice restaurant. The one thing she added was never leave no tip for bad service. When you leave no tip the waitress just thinks you are cheap. The advice I was given was to leave 2 cents. Thus the saying "giving your 2 cents worth".

"..With women it doesn't seem to matter as much. What's up with that?...."

Everyone in the service industry knows that for a fact. But FReeper women are not the insecure types who stiff 'wait staff', they prolly don't know either. Ladies?
