I used to go into the magic shop and buy stuff every time we were there.
Martin used to regularly demostrate tricks and balloons in the shop. It was great.

18. Walt Disney kept a 600-square-foot studio apartment above the firehouse on Main Street. Its maintained as a shrine to the parks founder and kept just as he left it, with Victorian antiques, red velvet carpeting and a device for making grilled cheese sandwiches. Outsiders are rarely allowed inside. A light shines from the window at all times as a symbol of Disneys eternal presence. He was in the process of building a new multi-room apartment for his family elsewhere in the park when he died. The apartment is now the Art Gallery near New Orleans Square.

Before I die I hope to have had a meal in Club 33. If any FReepers are members, I would be ecstatic to get an invitation to eat there!!

Ond day in the California Adventure some girl got hurt from a fall, people with hidden walkie talkies were there immediately. You're talking immediately! A couple years ago, my then-six-year-old son, on a gymnastics team, was forever trying to flip over all the bars along the ride wait lines. He flipped over one and I heard a real clunk. It was dusk so I could not see well, but when I checked his head, it was all wet.. with blood! He'd hit his head on the fake but rough "rock wall" under the bar! As soon as we told the employee at the front of the line, we had people surrounding us, including a medical doctor and a nurse with a wheelchair.
My son was fine, the doctor said we could do stitches but he didn't really need it (under the hairline), and he wanted to stay at the park. I was hoping Eisner would open his checkbook, but alas, all we got was a free t-shirt to replace the one with blood drops on it.

Thanks for posting this, it brought back some great memories.
I could see the Matterhorn from my back yard as a kid.
My Dad worked for Hughes Aircraft as a QC Inspector during the 60's and they would rent out the entire park for employees once a year. After having gone using the A,B,C,D,E system, it was a treat as a kid to be able to ride any ride as often as we wanted.
Thanks for the thread, it made my morning.
Cheers,

Yep. My Disney childhood memories disappearing one by one. Goofy and Snow White sharing a cigarette. Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews) topless in Victor, Victoria. Hayley Mills (the British waif from numerous Disney movies, including Pollyanna and the original The Parent Trap) topless in the movie Deadly Strangers.
Next you'll be telling me that Disney is making R-rated movies, or that Disney World and Disneyland have a Gay Pride Day or something (he said, tongue in cheek).

5. The spooky voice that narrates the Haunted Mansion ride is that of the Pillsbury Doughboy. An actor named Paul Frees, who was to Disney what Mel Blanc was to Warner Brothers, supplied the voices for both, as well as many of the pirates in Pirates of the Caribbean and most of the characters in Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln (except Abe himself). He was also the voice of John Lennon in the old Beatles cartoons and Boris Badenov in the Rocky & Bullwinkle Show. ***********
Awesome. :)
Yep, that's as good as seeing "Aunt Bethany" on National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, and thinking "Dang, that actress (Mae Questral) sure has an oddly familiar voice." Turns out she was the voice of Olive Oyl.

Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews) topless in Victor, Victoria. That was S.O.B.

Prolly saw you at those company nights. No tickets needed; we were special. And therefore cool.

Do you still end your shift with "..and now we'll return to the really scary stuff; the California freeways..."?There were a few canned sign-offs and that was one of them. I worked there in the early 70's and haven't been back to D'Land since the early 80's (I've lived in Virginia since '84). A lot of things have changed since then.

I was pregnant with my first born in January, 1994. I woke up hungry and ate a big breakfast. There we were in the parking line for Disneyland when that baby began to make me feel sick. We were locked in. My husband still teases me about puking up at "The Happiest Place on Earth".

Here's another factoid:
The Carousel of Progress ride is narrated by the late Jean Shepherd (most familiar as the narrator of A Christmas Story). I liked the ride better when the final, modern/futuristic segment of the ride featured a nuclear power plant (visible in the distance through the kitchen window).

We got stuck on the It's A Small World ride for 2-1/2 hours when I was about 14. To this day that song still sends chills up my spine. I was on a commercial shoot for Disneyland once. I had to ride Small World about 12 times in a row for one shot. Five seconds of film, four hours of hell.

You are almost certainly correct, and for that I am thankful. Now all questions about topless movie roles may be directed to you instead of to me, with your gracious permission (**laughing**).
And if anyone asked, it's not that I actually saw either of those topless performances. I just heard about them from . . . a friend. Yeah, that's the ticket.

In the 80s, Long Beach turned down a Disney Park which would have been mostly on the water. They built it in Tokyo instead. It's called DisneySea.

recently, Frankie Thomas (also on the show) was involved in an automobile accident. He sustained a broken hip. These guys are not real young any more and I wish him a speedy recovery.

I'll join with you in good wishes for him. No, these guys can't be too young.
