Allowing concealed guns a bad idea

By ADAM A. MEYERS Racine, Wis.

I am a police officer with the Racine Police Department and a part-time police officer for another community in Racine County. This is strictly my opinion and I am not speaking on behalf of the communities or law enforcement agencies that employ me.

The Wisconsin law against carrying a concealed firearm has worked effectively for over 130 years. Deciding to pass a concealed carry law in Wisconsin that will allow almost every adult to carry a concealed firearm is a potentially dangerous decision.

Carrying a concealed firearm and deciding to shoot another human being is different from what is perceived on television, in the movies or while playing a video game. Allowing Wisconsin residents to carry concealed firearms may not reduce crime. If anything, crime may increase and there will be, without a doubt, more firearms in our homes and on our streets.

I strongly support the ability for people to defend themselves, but I don’t believe that carrying a concealed firearm is the only way to accomplish this. There are a lot of responsibilities that come with carrying a concealed firearm and being able to effectively use it against someone in their self-defense or in the defense of another human being.

I agree that retired law enforcement professionals should be permitted to carry a concealed firearm as long as they follow state and federal laws and those policies presented to them by their former law enforcement agencies.

I believe that there is no credible evidence that carrying a concealed firearm reduces crime and that passing a concealed carry law in Wisconsin will do more harm than good.

Certainly a biased report. What he does not mention is the inability of law enforcement to protect the populace from the "Bad Guys" Hence, my tagline.

Sorry, Officer ADAM A. MEYERS. .................. I was a Law Enforcement Officer for over 30 years................... FACT: Police Agencies routinely inflate the number of STATED officers out on "The Beat".............. FACT: In Southern California, if you cal 911, you get put on hold for 15 or more minutes. By that time, your intruder will have killed you................... CONCLUSION: Where there is Concealed Carry, Crime goes DOWN!

Sorry Adam, but your belief - not matter how sincerely held it may be - does not change the FACT that violent crime rates have declined everywhere concealed carry has been enacted. Of course, perhaps Wisconsin will be different, just like the socialists always think that the next place to try socialism will be successful because the right people will be in charge there.

Concealed weapons are a horrible idea. They've adversely affected criminality everywhere this has been tried.

</sarcasmm>

...and just think of all the children's books we would have missed had concealed carry been legal in Tookie Williams' day!

</sarcasm>

Bloody typos...

can anyone explain to me the logic of saying "hey, you. you're a citizen, we have no problem with you owning a gun, you can protect yourself and your family in your house with it, you can carry it in the woods hunting, but you can't carry it on the street."
and worse, the ones who say "you can't carry it concealed, but you can carry it open. but if you carry it open you will very likely be harrassed, and will face possibility of charges for 'brandishing a firearm.'"

he is, plain and simple, an ignorant man. it has been proven time and again that concealed carry WORKS. it has lowered crime everywhere it has been used, and my concealed carry permit has lowered crime in my neighbor

Hmmm. Must be one of those cops who has a .40 Glock "just going off" in its holster from time to time.

Crime was real bad 130 years ago compared to today?

In other news, Bushmaster has made a top loading, internal magazine AR-15 to meet California laws!

So, for those of you in the liberal occupied State of California, you can own an AR-15! (sort of)

It is relatively easy to get and C and C permit here in Florida and no uptick in crime rate. The fact that one out of fifty you encounter may be packing may be more like a deterrant.
I kinda like the idea of an old forty five colt stapped on gunslinger style. NOTHING concealed. You know what I have.So bad boys what you going to do. Bwahahahahahahaha!

I agree with him, partially.

I think that people should be allowed to carry their guns in plain sight. That way, there will be no doubt that individuals are prepared to defend themselves, and that criminals prey upon them at their own risk.

An armed society is a polite society. Ive heard more than once that more women in Texas carry than any other state. Texas also has the lowest rates on assault on women.

Florida has a CC law and it's working great. Goons think twice about sticking up law biding citizens, and contrary to the concerns of liberals, it's not the wild wild west. If there had been a case of abuse it would have made the front page of every liberal newspaper in Florida. And it hasn't.

Turns out the bad guys don't bother to get a CC permit, and the good guys who do, don't abuse it. There it is - the obvious once again. Criminals break the laws, law biding citizens, don't.

Why are they so special and the common American citizen not?

Ah. An elitist. He and his cohorts are OBVIOUSLY much smarter, trainable, responsible and more astute than any private citizen could possibly be.
