I always do.
Seems familiar. I was in a similar position when I worked at a chain store with womens clothing during the late 1970's and early 1980's. Keep in mind these were the DISCO years, so I was musically tortured with DISCO versions of Christmas and wintertime tunes. :-) It's a wonder that I, as a musician, remained sane at all. Some of my friends would argue to the contrary of course! ;-/
It's Grani's way of saying he feels a guilt trip whenever he walks past a bell ringer :-).
Well of course you dont care your an atheist right? or at least highly secular? God is abomination to you and you could care less that the freedoms that we have today are because Christians sacrificed their lives and their possessions. I guess you know nothing of American history? Dont worry we'll do whats right slobs like yourself can continue to fead off of the bounty.
Right after 9-11, I walked into Target and asked for the US Flag kits. I needed one since ours had gotten old and ragged and had been properly disposed.
The Target people were dumbfounded when I told them they were missing the most important thing their store should be stocking and that they were going to miss out on a LOT of sales. Sure enough, within 2 weeks, that store was stocking US Flag kits.
I'm not expecting the world to reinforce our beliefs. I'm expecting them not to pee on my shoes and tell me it's raining.
Hopefully you will never need the benefit of Salvation Army
" Just makes me feel like a pharisee shouting the law without the love."
I suppose you love the child rapist and murderer huh? Cant we just all get along type? Rodney King and JJ would be proud of you, your so sensitive. So what church do you go to? Oh you dont attend? Why I would have never guessed.
I'm going to be one of the poor souls standing in line at 4am on Friday to buy one of those $378 hp laptops from Wal-Mart.
Maybe now it would be a great time to remind them as to why you are making that choice?!
It seems to be the opposite. This year retail sales are expected to be UP from last year - in fact it was announced yesterday that the projected 5% was expected to be 6%. Maybe the 80+ of the population will be spending more in a Christmas-friendly shopping environment?!
Sounds like they might be attempting to assimilate into the Judeo-Christian culture?! Or at least contemplating?
We buy our Christmas tree from the local Boy Scout troup who has their annual Christmas tree sale on the nearby church lot. It's a TWO-FER :-).
The money collected by "those annoying beggars" served to help a LOT of people in the wake of Hurricanes Rita and Katrina. And they did it in one of the most financially efficient methods of any 501(c)3 charitable organization operating in this country.
But don't feel guilty or anything like that when you walk past them.
Is your name Scrooge?
Then how about a practicing Catholic ignoring the boycott?
I've been shopping at Target for years and will continue to do so regardless of their decision to keep the Salvation Army bell ringers from the front of their stores.
I donate every single charitable item I have to my local Salvation Army, but I refuse to stop shopping at Target. Just as other people here have the freedom believe one thing, the people at Target have the freedom to believe another. I'm certainly not saying the boycott is wrong. Go for it.
I just have too many reasons not to follow it. I freaking hate shopping at Walmart. The aisles are too close together. The products are even more cheaply made than the ones at Target. I have yet to encounter a single employee who WANTS to help me....that is if I can find one who actually works there.
At Target, on the other hand, if I wander into the book section, I will find an employee who will ask me if I've read "this certain book"..."what type of book are you looking for?". ACTUAL help! The pharmacy takes less than 15 minutes instead of 45.
So, while I understand the strength of all of your convictions, I don't share them. Christmas does not mean RETAIL for me. What these stores believe in or don't believe in doesn't mean anything to me.
They are a means to an end.
Plus those bells give me headache.
I only spend holiday money on holiday trees--and I ain't got no holiday money...
There's no Target anywhere near me or anybody I know, if there were I wouldn't shop there. I'm partial to Wal-Mart.
