Right. If you listened to his entire speech on C-span yesterday, you would know exactly what he meant when he talked about redeployment.
He wants to take out the vast majority of the forces. Then he wants to put a small marine force in a "nearby" country, to be used as a "quick-strike" force in Iraq if necessary.
Murtha said that the sooner we pulled all our troops out of Iraq, the sooner things would get better for Iraq. He gave NO indication that there was ANY reason to leave the troops there a minute longer. He said: "It's time to bring them home". He didn't say SOON, or in six months, he said "It's time".
He also said: "Our military has accomplished its mission and done its duty."
There is no way to "misinterpret" his comments as being anything but a call to get our troops out of the way, out of Iraq, as soon as possible.
That is why all the newspapers said the same thing about his statements: "One of Congress' most hawkish and influential Democrats called Thursday for an immediate U.S. withdrawal from Iraq".
I saw some of it; maybe I can cach it later on CSPAN.
"He wants to take out the vast majority of the forces. Then he wants to put a small marine force in a "nearby" country, to be used as a "quick-strike" force in Iraq if necessary. '
This is really wacky. If you move the troops out why keep them close. Under what pretext does he suggest you send them back?
That is correct. I listened to the entire thing. He wants us out.
