Don't know how many of you caught Rep. John Murtha's very angry, very moving speech just now in which he called on the White House to institute an immediate withdrawal of US troops from Iraq. CNN didn't air the entire thing, but as I listened to it, I could feel the ground shift. Murtha, as you know, is not a Pelosi-style Chardonnay Democrat; he's a crusty retired career Marine who reminds me of the kinds of beer-slugging Democrats we used to have before the cultural left took over the party. Murtha, a conservative Dem who voted for the war, talked in detail about the sacrifices being borne by our soldiers and their families, and about his visits out to Walter Reed to look after the maimed, and how we've had enough, it's time to come home. He was hell on the president too.
If tough, non-effete guys like Murtha are willing to go this far, and can make the case in ways that Red America can relate to -- and listening to him talk was like listening to my dad, who's about the same age, and his hunting buddies -- then the president is in big trouble. I'm sure there's going to be an anti-Murtha pile-on in the conservative blogosphere, but from where I sit, conservatives would be fools not to take this man seriously.

So true. I truly believe that they would rather lose a war than lose another election.
You are full of bullsh*t. Name one FReeper who wants to stay in Iraq forever, you idiot. And FYI, invasions of surrounding countries may be necessary if they develop nukes, which they would LOVE to use on us. Don't want to ruin your rose colored glass day, but you really are in denial and need some help.
Savage played Murtha tonight and then urged the opposite direction: escalation. Savage said if we pull out it will be seen as another Vietnam and that the terrorists would pursue us here at home with renewed vigor once we have shown such weakness. It was a stong case. Bush and Rummy did not go unscathed. I liked how Savage referred to Bush's initial efforts in Iraq as the "Mr. Rogers" approach, and that Rummy's plan was not strong or brutal enough to ensure swift total victory.
None whatsoever. The man is a disgrace and will no longer have the respect of the military he once served. "Former hawk" is the best one could say of him.
You really are a piece of work churchillbuff. and you have the gall to give yourself a forum name in honor of a truly great man, Winston Churchill, who would likely find you to be an idiot. Go figure..!
If you saw the NBC nightly news tonite, you would have to believe that Traiter Jack has just swiched his position. Changes the whole story. Maybe the Rats and the media are in this together? You think?
Murtha and the Democrats are trying to throw the upcomming election. There can be no other explination. They know what the timing if his comments mean. Murtha will go to his grave as a disgraced American and a disgraced Marine.
listed on his press release
I STRONGLY disagree with your opinion of Murtha's angry, Liberal loony tune....aka, "rant". The man does not deserve any decent American's respect and ought to be booted right out of office along with all of the other lying traitors who call themselves Americans.
Well, how about this Murpha, the democrats were in control when Hitler grew up into a monster and invaded Europe. And they did not declare war on him until Japan hit us in 1941.
It was democrats who sent loads of US troops into Vietnam, only to want to leave so that 1968 the Democratic convention almost became a war unto itself.
And many of them supported this war until they discovered that war is expensive and can take wierd turns and twists.
Seems to me the only thing that Democrats are good for is getting us into wars, then wanting to get out when the going gets tough and people begin to whine.Sounds to me like they are opposed to our national security and wish us to fail in any military endeavor.
We could just call them the Eunuch party, because they have no cajones to do what needs to be done in the global war on terror. Anyone who thinks the war on terror is going to go away if we simply leave Iraq has got to have his head in the ground like an ostrich, or up his old wazoo.
Bravo, kellynla!!!!
These Democrats are stepping over the line now of being traitors. Yes, TRAITORS.
They will stop at nothing to disgrace the current administration and Bush.
They are despirate. They can't win anything. It is about time.
Murtha has 37 years of Military experience. He voted for the resolution to go to War and now wants to cut and run.
It goes to prove: Democratic Males make bad sex partners, they pull out too soon.
I smell Hillary & Reid behind this shift by Murtha. Murtha brings a lot of pork to the Johnstown area. What do you want to bet that Hillary had the senate start pressuring his 'earmarks' in conference?
Murtha's been flipped to make Hillary's postion look 'reasoned'. She can point to Murtha and tell the Press, "see this hawk over here, he's turned against the war. But not me! I have a secret plan handed down to me by channeling the ghost of Richard Nixon."
Who in their right mind would 'like' a war, any war? Some wars are necessary, some are optional. Some we have been told in the past were necessary, only to find out at a later date they were not necessary and in the end made conditions on a worldwide basis worse than before.
At this link is a great picture of John Murtha looking like a pig in crap in Bill Clintoon's presence. Let's just put it this way, Murtha, resume notwithstanding, is a liberal democrat a$$ kisser.

John Murtha has two wars as a Marine under his belt - Korea and Vietnam. He can say whatever he damn well pleases.
VOINOVICH,MURTHA ETC.......How is it so many representatives are crying on cue? Prozac levels in DC must be very low.
Why can't we stay forever? We're still in Germany, Japan, S. Korea, Guam, Okinawa, etc., etc.
We captured the Phillipines in 1899 and stayed there until the 1980's. And so far the puke-faced rat-man in Cuba hasn't kicked us out of Gitmo, although you probably think we should get out of there too.
Get real, the US will be there for quite some time, probably at least 50 years, and that's a good thing for the US and the middle east and the rest of the world.
Thank God for all the Patriots who still believe in America and are willing to commit to defending her.
