"So when do you go for the abortion?'' my friend asked, her voice sympathetic.
"Wednesday,'' I replied, and then hurriedly got off the phone. I called Mike, my boyfriend, in tears, complaining about how inconsiderate people are, how no one thinks before they speak. The truth was, until I heard the word "abortion,'' it hadn't occurred to me that I was actually having one.

Pregnancy is not something you catch like a cold.
There are choices to make that do not include killing your unborn baby.
"I feel sorry for her. Even though she believes that she made the right choice, she will never be the same emotionally."
I feel sorry for her too. It seems like it was a gut wrenching decision. Because they were older, they probably didn't want the problems and the time it would consume in their life. Pretty selfish if you ask me.
One other thing...these tests aren't always correct.
One moral to this story is, nature intended for humans to have children at a much younger age than these folks. Raising children takes more energy than people in their 50's and 60's can muster.
Ah...the liberal attitude to those with handicaps on full display. It reared its ugly head during the Terri disaster Jessi Jackson notwithstanding as well.
For a few years I worked in a mental health hospital which also operated a day care program for mentally disabled people including those adults or late teens with Down Syndrome. They gathered during the week for activities and developing learning skills and went on arranged field trips. Occasionally they raised money for their craft supplies by making dinner for the people in the hospital and the staff as well.
They had a memorable time serving spaghetti lunches to long lines of staff and patients (making a statement about the hospital food too I believe), and we all had a great time interacting with these people.
Know why? I have never seen such truly happy people. The patients were naturally unhappy and depressed in most cases, if not paranoid or out of it....and the staff were rushed, tired, cranky and all those things you encounter in a working environment which has a stress level of high proportions.
The most free, most accepting people were the disabled folk - especially the Down Syndrome group who were great communicators, enjoyed showing us their crafts at a moment's notice, and seemed to grateful to have a busy day ahead of them, enjoying life's simple pleasures. To be alive....and busy.
I often wondered which group was the "disabled" in our crowd.
Wait for what? Retirement? She's 42 and he's 52. Just how long are they planning on waiting? If they're not ready by now, they're never going to be.
OK, that's enough for me.
Now let's put our thinking caps on, Leftists. If it's better to kill a baby than to let it live with Down's Syndrome, what should we do about those people currently living with Down's Syndrome? Wouldn't they be better off dead too?
In fact, I'm sure that's what you believe. You just don't have the guts to pull the trigger. At least not yet. Thank God.
I blame people who watch and support tv shows like "Sex in the City' & "Housewives'. It's those people who are supporting immoral actions.
They had already sinned. They were having sex outside of marriage.
Moral of the story... If you are going to sin, take precautions so you don't conceive a baby you are going to kill.
I thought that at one time too. But listen to the other side of the argument which is based entirely on the natural law. Note this prophetic passage in particular.
Responsible men can become more deeply convinced of the truth of [this] ...if they reflect on the consequences of methods and plans for artificial birth control. Let them first consider how easily this course of action could open wide the way for marital infidelity and a general lowering of moral standards. Not much experience is needed to be fully aware of human weakness and to understand that human beingsand especially the young, who are so exposed to temptationneed incentives to keep the moral law, and it is an evil thing to make it easy for them to break that law. Another effect that gives cause for alarm is that a man who grows accustomed to the use of contraceptive methods may forget the reverence due to a woman, and, disregarding her physical and emotional equilibrium, reduce her to being a mere instrument for the satisfaction of his own desires, no longer considering her as his partner whom he should surround with care and affection.Keep in mind that all Protestant denominations opposed artificial means of contraception until 1929.
As a woman myself, I just can't imagine the thought process you would have to go through to convince yourself it's okay to kill your baby. My husband and I don't want to have children at this point in our lives, but if I did get pregnant, there is no way I would not have the baby - even if he or she does have Down's or some other kind of "defect." I'm seriously really upset by this article, and I can't help but feel pity for this woman, as she will never stop thinking about the baby she killed.
Abortion for defect of the baby is the exception to the rule.
Most of them are done for the reasons of "I wasn't quite ready yet to be a mommy."
No one has the right to make a subjective decision regarding the quality or usefulness of another persons life.
She's so sure prolifers wouldn't give a woman the right to grieve...
...trained personel do this everyday in crisis pregnancy centers around the world...
..let women grieve over aborted babies..... they even have grief counseling and name the baby who was aborted.
They also counsel these women to understand it is a baby....and hope they will not abort again and again....(as some women do)
But I also feel anger....this woman cannot justify killing an innocent baby...(& who knows if that test was 100% right!---many times the baby is born healthy & without the Down's, althought that is not an excuse to kill the child)...
This woman may have killed her only opportunity to have a child from her womb.
So even she acknowledges that it was a human being she killed.
Hey, Maria, glad the infanticide worked out for ya'.
