"Oh yes we have Churchill as one to thank in helping bring about the creation of Iraq. You remember, during the last wave of attempted Westernization of the Middle East. Well of course you don't remember or you'd see this is an exercise in futility."

OOOohhh ok. And before I read your post I thought the problem with Iraq was Saddam Hussein. Now we know it was Winston Churchill. Thanks for feeling lining me out there.

First, I am not your "buddy!"

Second, there are evil people out there who mean to do us -- "the good guys" -- serious harm, and those of you in denial about their existence and the means we need to rid the world of their evil are out of touch with reality.

Simply put, they need to killed!

I do not wish to engage you in a flame war -- just wanted to point out to you that if the US took your advice, we'd be in a hellofalot more trouble than we are now.

No reply is necessary or desired.

what happens when 3 of our maor cities blow off the face of the earth?

(Assuming that's in reference to the ChiComs) We nuke 20-50 of theirs, and they know that. Thus deterrence.

How bout the rulers of Red China. One of their generals has threatened to nuke LA. That's more than Saddam ever threatened, but instead of invading, we're trading big-time with them. Go figure.

Face it, we had Saddam contained with sanctions and overflights. There was no need to invade. We defeated the USSR with containment. Saddam was a paper petunia compared to the Soviets.

Anyone who believes that Saddam had nothing to do with Islamofacist terrorism -- as you apparently do -- has got a serious disconnect between fantasy and reality. Islamofacist terrorism was one of Saddam's most important business ventures.

The Chicoms and the Russians only threatened to kill us -- the Islamofacists have been killing us since 1973. It is their turn to die.

The others will have to wait their turn.

Sometimes people name call because they get tired dealing with juvenile arguments.

Theodore Roosevelt, 1918, during the First World War: "To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."

LOL!

How does your response relate to my post? Of course the answer is that it doesn't.

I, having never put forth the argument that "there must be no criticism of the president", get another straw-man fallacy from you.

What makes people like you so dangerous for the nation, is you just do net get it, nor will any amount of logic change your mind.

I find that truly sad.

What are we doing and why?

The enemy declared war on us on October, 28th 1979. Our nation failed to take this declaration seriously until September, 11th 2001.

We have now responded. Iraq and Afghanistan are not "the War" but are campaigns of a greater War. The "War" is and has been fought by nearly all nations at one time or another since 624 A.D when Mohammad warred against Mecca and extorted his followers to use the sword. This war against all who do not accept Allah has not ceased and continues today.

We are currently engaged in Iraq and Afghanistan because as a civilized Nation we abhor the loss of life from what we saw during our Civil War, WWI and WWII. We intend to draw a line in the sand now so a greater conflagration does not engulf our children.

As a civilized nation we hope to bring a different viewpoint to the Middle East that is opposed to unrestrained destruction. A destruction that Saddam Hussein embraced with his desire for conquest and dominance.

As a civilized nation we refuse to destroy the Middle East and salt that earth so none can arise from there to cause further destruction.

Instead we hope the Middle east will change. We hope they can embrace the ideals of living peaceably and productively with all other nations. We hope to stop the unwanted warfare that Mohammad and his followers and dictators like Saddam have wrought upon this earth in the name of their deity or from their lust for power.

We are in a campaign of a greater war just like Guadalcanal or Normandy were campaigns of a war. Our soldiers fight strong and valiant and protect our nation.

If we fail to protect our nation now. We will lose the opportunity later. The forces of fanaticism, conquest and destruction will be emboldened.

We fight for our freedom to prevent sharia law and we fight for our children that they may know the peace I experienced due to the valiant soldiers that fought in WWII against conquerers and tyrannizers, the likes of which Saddam Hussein desired to emulate.

The plan is that freedom loving nations do not inherently destroy each other. Iraq under Saddam was NOT a freedom loving nation. Iraq under Saddam engaged in conquest and brutality. The realization is this part of the world knows only slavery and destruction. If we break their bonds we can hope for a better tomorrow for all of us.

All other arguments about WMD or what not are meaningless and distraction in the face of the danger. I dwell not on how we responded to September 11th 2001 instead I question why we did not respond before then.

Saddam Hussein was as much a danger as the rest of the lunatics and cultists that come forth from that region of the world. He used deadly horrific gases and other chemical weapons on Iran in that war and later upon his own citizens. And yes, while Iran is a looming danger, we hope that Iran can change internally. Something we could not afford to hope with Saddam Hussein and Iraq. They are two different peoples with two very different histories. But in the meantime we have surrounded Iran on all sides. We have conducted a similar strategy to MacArthur's island hopping strategy of which Iraq is a part of that strategy. We will capture the enemies forward bases and we will surround the home nation(s) of the enemy.

In a somewhat analogy, Saddam was like Saruman and his Orcs.

But Allah is Sauron to our world. Shall we be feeble minded like Denethor or for that matter YOU. Or shall we stand firm like Theoden and the riders of Rohan.

Take heed as we watch the slow defeat of France.

We have done and are doing what is right to defend our nation.

But I know in my mind fellow citizen, I CAN NOT count on you to defend this nation. I waste no time on you, ever again.

The enemy declared war on us on October, 28th 1979."""

The communist enemy declared war on us in 1917. Yet we were able to defeat the monster that Lenin and Stalin created without invading. There was no need to invade Iraq. By taking that unnecessary step, Bush has made it harder to hang on to the tax cuts that he - correctly - implemented, and IMPOSSIBLE to cut taxes more, even though federal taxes (and state taxes) are still WAY TOO HIGH.

I don't share the enthusiasm of a lot of freepers for high taxes so we can "remake the Middle East." That's a pipe dream - and even if it weren't, we need to make America more free, first, and that starts by lowering spending and lowering taxes.

You're quite right about the history of terrorism's brazenness being encouraged by our own history of comlacency, which preceded Billy Jeff's reign of error.

Is what way is the "westernization" of the Middle East worst than the "easternization" of Europe? The Muslims have been trying to do this for most of the time since the year 632.

Your statements are without context, are very ignorant, and that's quite frankly, being kind to you.

A communist fears death, like most humans. When you call their bluff with force, they do not want to die. That's why deterrence could work with them.

When you try to call the bluff of an Islamofascist, they yell "Allah Ahkbar" and detonate both of you. You don't reaason with them, and you can't deal with them, because you are an infidel and they will lie to you and send their children to kill themselves as they kill others. Sorry you can't understand that, sorry you are so truly ignorant of the stakes here. The Islamists seem to know the stakes well, and are trying their best to take over any country they can; right now their main hope since we routed them in Afghanistan is in persuading nimrods such as yourself to cut and run from Iraq so they can do just that. With your help they'll get Iraq as we turn tail, but in their own words, once they get it they intend to establish the Third Caliphate to rule the world and cut off the heads of those like you. And yes, appeasement (under the guise of "containment") shows weakness, for which they will gladly reward you.

The sad mental disease of naive people such as yourself, is that you start believing delusional things....like "Saddam had no links to Al Queda" when anyone with Google can prove that to be wrong in about two seconds. His pet project was Islamic terrorism, and I for one am thrilled we went after him, are contiuuing to go after them and kill them before they destroy the rest of the world.

And don't cop out here becasue you were called a name......but I won't hold my breath.

Taxman Bravo Zulu! for your most excellent comments re: Churchillbuff's lunacy.

It is high time we put and end to the war the Islamofacists declared on the non-Muslim world in 624 AD.

The solution is 100% eradication of Islamofacist terrorists!
Where others have failed, we must succeed, lest there be another 1381 years of Islamofacist terrorism.

I'd certainly hate to leave a legacy of a job unfinished -- this is a battle to the death, IMHO.
