War is hell. But its worse when the Marines bring out their new urban combat weapon, the SMAW-NE. Which may be why theyre not talking about it, much.
This is a version of the standard USMC Shoulder Mounted Assault Weapon but with a new warhead. Described as NE - "Novel Explosive"- it is a thermobaric mixture which ignites the air, producing a shockwave of unparalleled destructive power, especially against buildings.
A post-action report from Iraq describes the effect of the new weapon: "One unit disintegrated a large one-storey masonry type building with one round from 100 meters. They were extremely impressed." Elsewhere it is described by one Marine as "an awesome piece of ordnance."

I once walked into our Mortar Sections Barracks to find them all in the dark with road march flashlights arranged in a circle. In the center was a lone figure on his hands and knees. I thought it was some sort of odd ritual, maybe a mortar mens human sacrifice to the Cheese Gods.
Just as I was about to run....... I saw the blue flame shoot out the lone figures ass. Much giggling ensued.
Frikkin Mortar Heads!

I am reminded of weapons training at Camp Geiger,
before the "mad minute", they would have a Marine with
an M-14 standing there and would announce, "Sometime in
the not so distant future we will have weapons that can do this!" At which time he would shoot at one of the tank hulks down range, which was packed with explosives and
it would just disappear.
Ah the future! Why won't they let geezers have any fun.

Wow! Flattened that building! They ought to call it "The Tornado" the way it took out that building.

"But in an era of precision bombs, where collateral damage is expected to be kept to a minimum, such massively brutal weapons have become highly controversial." What part of "Close with the enemy and destroy him and his will to fight" do these journalist not understand.

These were used in Afghanistan in the caves with devastating effect.
This class of weapon should not receive a great amount of publicity unless we are willing to have them duplicated and shot back at us by our enemies.
That is why the people who use them don't have so much to say about them.

KEEPING STRONG -- [Ones Marine's View - in Iraq]
...The above isnt about the warriors here in Iraq, its a recommendation for you. You are the target. The enemy is being beaten here in Iraq and Afghanistan and they know they cant beat us and their own comrades are turning against one another. Ones that try to fight us die trying and are disappointed that there are no virgins waiting for them because they all went to America to the Marine base instead! Operation Steel Curtain has put the insurgents in a severe hurt locker and now has begun to wind down. Read the rest
