War is hell. But its worse when the Marines bring out their new urban combat weapon, the SMAW-NE. Which may be why theyre not talking about it, much.
This is a version of the standard USMC Shoulder Mounted Assault Weapon but with a new warhead. Described as NE - "Novel Explosive"- it is a thermobaric mixture which ignites the air, producing a shockwave of unparalleled destructive power, especially against buildings.
A post-action report from Iraq describes the effect of the new weapon: "One unit disintegrated a large one-storey masonry type building with one round from 100 meters. They were extremely impressed." Elsewhere it is described by one Marine as "an awesome piece of ordnance."

Fuel - Air explosive, uses powdered aluminum for fuel. Causes massive heaving explosion if detonated in a closed area with enough air. Russian design.
Jointly engineered with Marvin the ("earth shattering kaboom") Martian
It makes sense, if you think about recoil, and the tube tending to rotate around the shoulder of the firer.
No apologies necessary for the new weapon. I'm glad we have it and I hope it is deadly.
Hillary Clinton has been 'dating' the "CPR" and the "HEDP" for years....Barney Frank is partial to the "HEAA" especially on Saturday Nights....
I remember the Corps wouldn't let us fire it because there were too many instances of misfires and premature detonation, as in detonating inside the launcher. Glad to see that we got someting for our Marines that actually works.
You have a good week too!!!
Bah bye Islamofascist.
By golly! I guess with the round loaded in the rear and the long empty tube sticking out front, placing the bipod in the rear takes more weight off the operator's shoulder?
Brutal New Weapon
As Warren Christopher said during the Iran hostage saga...can't we just shoot them in the arm and tie them up?
Nah. On second thought, that bipod simply looks like a convenient way to set the thing down without it tipping over. When it is picked up, the bipod would be resting against the front of the operator's chest, with the shoulder pad on the - uh, shoulder. You would still want the bipod at the rear, with the bottom of the pistol grip being the third leg of a 'tripod'. The round still constitutes the majority of the weight of the weapon.

Only problem with this is the SMAW is the biggest piece of crap ever foisted on my beloved Corps. It can't take ANY bumps, knocks or rough handling without losing it's zero, the spotting rifle becomes misaligned with the main tube in a strong breeze and it takes an armorer, 20 pounds of jigs and gages and 45 minutes of time to put the stupid thing back in whack. Junk. Bleh!!!
Hey, since so many dead people vote Dem, isn't it about time they had one of their own in Congress?
Actually, the acronym is STUPD-BYTCH, and I have a first-glimpse of it being used....not for the squeamish, so be warned...

WOW, what a Mass Casualty inducer!
I'll bet you're right. With a rocket tube inserted in the launcher the bipod would be in the right place. But I gotta think it would be in the way when you brought it up to shoot.
The image I linked to isn't available anymore. Here's a page with a lot of photos:
I'm thinking we need to publicize less the weaponry where using and how we use it... that'd be nice. I want more secrecy...not less.
