My daughter's favorite thing at Christmas was getting the next American Girl Doll...she has a collection of around eight of them along with a bunch of accessories and all the books that go along with them. Am I to believe she is going to grow up and become a lesbian and pro abortion.. Ummm, oh yeah, she's all grown up and in college, and is far from being a lesbian (take my word for it) and is as pro life as I am..which is 100%. Funny thing, she can't wait to give her daughter (if she ever has one) her prize collection some day.
Did I miss the point here? Maybe I did.

Sakes, give her a razor for her 13th birthday and show her how to shave her legs. The lefties won't go near her.

The issue isn't the dolls, rather the philanthropic/co-marketing arrangement with a pro-abortion group. That's a legitimate issue to protest, just as the left protests the Boy Scouts. The author simply has no tolerance for differing opinions.

The company pushes moral relativism in the form of promoting abortion, contraception for teenagers and lesbianism. A lot of conservatives don't want to support companies that spend money, time and energy promoting such leftist social agendas. Especially if there's also a chance their kids will come into contact - in this case, via websites connected with the American Girl products - with the abortion and lesbian promoting propaganda.

Isn't that pretty clear to you?

American Girl is sponsoring Girls Inc. (used to be Girl's
Clubs) which is promoting this sort of thing:
(from the resources section of their website)

"The Shared Heart: Portraits and Stories Celebrating Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Young People" by A. Mastoon (1997)
'The Shared Heart brings a human face and a dignified voice to the experiences of lesbian, gay and bisexual young people.' This book works to bread down stereotypes and introduces people of all sexual orientations to forty brave, honest people who have face adolescence as a lesbian, gay or bisexual teenager.

This is aimed toward young girls, and THIS is what people are protesting about, not the dolls themselves, just that the AG company is endorsing this sort of thing by endorsing Girl's Inc.

There's more like this at the websites I listed.

All that glimmers is not gold... and it's a shame. Finally thought there was one good thing left, it's all about money now... some things I refuse to let mine go to.

Of course the books are historical and educational, but the causes beneath are insidious.

For example, my daughter 9, was in the Girl Scouts last year... I was in the scouts, my sisters and a lot of my friends, great experience. My daughter was taught about condoms... at nine, in the girl scouts. Think I let her stay there? Nope. Some have said troops are different... put her in a troop somewhere else... would you?

My daughter is seven and has a number of AG dolls, books and accessories. She loves them. I love them--I wanted to get the complete Molly collection for myself, and I am hardly a weirdo adult doll collector!!

The dolls themselves will not encourage anyone to become a lesbian or have an abortion. That is ludicrous and feeble minded thinking, at best. That's also not the point.

This is a new partnership with Girl's Inc. AG is selling a bracelet, the proceeds of which go to this organization. That, in and of itself, would be fine--simply decline to purchase the bracelet; but they are also making a (relatively small) donation of $50,000.00 to this organization which ostenisbly comes from the proceeds from sales of these dolls.

All the dolls, etc... that you and I have purchased in the past were pre-Girls, Inc. partnership. Our money did not support them or their causes. Now, people who object to this partnership are declining to puchase AG products. That is their perogative.

This moonbat totally misses the point and fails to give the whole story. Of course, this approach fits his agenda. He mocks a Catholic school for standing on principle. Sad, really. He also mocks the "commercialism" of AG dolls--Barbie has been commercial city for years! Give me a break!

At nearly $100 a pop, the company will make plenty of money on this line (particularly since it's now made in China), with or without a small percentage of Christian buyers. I find it sad that a wholesome product such as this has been corrupted by an agenda. It's sad that we as a society can't agree on moral issues such as responsibility, self respect and respect for others. Instead, political correctness forces otherwise noble causes to kowtow to all points of view with the result that solid morality is cast to the wind. This issue is a microcosm of society in general--all that's right and good these days seems to be sacrificed on the altar of political correctness. Be glad your daughter is grown and wish her luck in raising your grandchildren in this culture.
