President Bush is making a speech at noon. Fox is reporting he will address the criticism aimed at him by the democrats in the past two weeks.
Mod note: Click here for transcript thread.
When those on our side start using the left talking points, you have to wonder.
The large majority of the public forty years and younger wouldn't know the reference without the thought completed. I'd give 3 to 1 odds that when the two headlines were tested to a mailing list that the complete-thought headline would pull a larger response. Probably by five times or more response.
They aren't going to wait until tonight. I'm waiting for the first ABC-DNC news minute at the top of the hour.
Let's face it the real opposition party in this country is the MSM. The Democrat party and the DNC are just figureheads.
We should have learned that from Cronkite during Vietnam. The MSM isn't able to cover their tracks in this new age of alternative media.
Thank you Mr. Robinson for this wonderful place called Free Republic!
When is George going to address criticism from Conservatives??? THAT is a bigger problem!
When my grand kids whine, they get a W and a L flashed on our foreheads.
It stands for don't be a whining loser. At age 6 and 4, they get the meaning and stop their whining.
You know that GW doesn't control the media. Hell, how many tv nets didn't bother carrying his speech today as an exampl.
It would be best if Congressional Republicans would defend the lies on the left, clearly. Since they are reluctant to do it, the president needs to and let the chips fall where they may.
To let these lies stand is worse than having the critics say the president is reduced by having to defend them. More people will believe the president; not all leftists are Michael Moore leftists, although those are the people we seem to hear from the most :-)
I haven't seen a transcript released yet, Sac.
Great speech. One of his best, even if it was about 2 months too late. Listening to Rush describe what the MSM response will be, and he's 100% correct. I listened to David Gregory on MSDNC spin it, and it was just a steady chant of "a severely weakened President", "White House is back in campaign mode", "weakened President", "Libby indictment has opened up the scrutiny into pre-war intelligence", "weakened President", blah, blah, blah. Did I forget to mention that Monkey Boy called the White House "seriously weakened"?
Expect a poll any second now showing that "70 percent of the American people viewed the President's speech negatively", that "he didn't make his case."
It was a great speech. My question is this: why wasn't it announced before this morning? My god, this thing should have been hyped for a week or more. It should have been a prime-time event.
Now I doubt it will be much more than a footnote in tonight's evening news. That's a darn shame.
That's what I'm talkin' 'bout. Quoting Rockefeller, Leahy, Clinton, Gore, all the Dims on the Senate Intel Committee.........
Yes, so how to we get around it? I write a small column for a local newspaper, it ends up on the web, but I don't have much reach. I'll be hitting this topic again and again over the next 3 months.
We can all do letter-writing, to journalists, to editors, to the editorial pages. We can do protests to try to get media coverage. We can call into liberal AND conservative talk shows. We can write to personalities. We can write to elected officials, and send money to those who stand up and speak the truth about THIS ISSUE, regardless of their other positions.
Maybe some of us can find where some prominent democrats live, and camp out by their houses until they come out and explain why they are lying to the american people about the pre-war intelligence. Certainly we have some mothers who have lost children in Iraq in the last year who can be seen as suffering because the democrats are lying about the war and emboldening the enemy.
We should appear in parades. We should hold signs at all the morning talk shows. "Why are the Democrats Lying About Iraq" "Why Does the Media Keep Silent"
We need to push the message: Democrats voted to support the war when it was politically expedient. When the going got tough, they abandoned their country. And rather than admitting what they say is an error, they tried to pass blame for their own actions to others.
Maybe we need a thread where we can collect activist ideas and coordinate. I'm sick and tired of the lies. I mad as h*ll, and I'm not taking it any more.
Our TROOPS need us to fight for out President in this fight against the lies seeking to undermine our country. We need to do this even though we hate his positions on other issues. This is more important than ideology.
Propoganda can be very powerful. The Germans and Japanese tried to use it against us in WWII but we had a more responsible media back then. Thank God.
We can disagree and fight stupidity like what happened yesterday, but we can not abandon this President when the liberal hoards attack.
Either you stand with President Bush in this war or you stand down for terrorist appeasing leftists.
Great speech.
Screw the terrorist appeasing MSM.
But that's what I mean. He says "my former opponent" rather than "Senator Kerry". It lessens the "personal" attack. It makes it more about what Kerry said, and less about WHO HE IS.
Someone else said he specifically mentioned democrats as being bad. I didn't remember him using the word Democrat while decrying the false statements, but I'll check the transcript.
He did say Democrats, but I thought it was when he was saying that some of them supported the war, not that some of them were lying. When he talked lying, I thought he said "critics of the war".
I could be wrong though -- I'll check the transcript.
I know full well the president doesn't control the media. So what's the answer? To let the lies stand? Why did it take so long for the president to address them?
I would simply label them "The Saddam Hussein Defense Team".
I second that! (Can we "second" prayers?)
That was the gist of what I said also. The staff does count the pros and cons.
"It never fails. No matter WHAT he does, some people never fail to criticize this President. It's in their DNA, and they can't seem to help it."
"When those on our side start using the left talking points, you have to wonder."
It gets so old. I have told some whiners to remove me from their whine list.
Those who sound like Howard Dean, Pelosi, Boxer, Reid or John Kerry aren't whiners. They are DU or third party trolls, and they offer nothing to this board.
