Same here.

If I recall correctly there was some concern that the SARS virus may have been the result of Chinese farmers selling meat from sick or dying pigs. America should have the highest food standards in the world and I want to know that my food isn't being shipped in from some 3rd world nation.

I WANT TO KNOW WHERE MY FOOD COMES FROM.

Yeah, I do too! I want my avocado's to come from Mexico, I want my papaya's to come from Belize, and I want my beef to come from Argentina.

What I am sick of, is the fact that I have to pay higher prices for food because some stupid politician wants to mollycoddle a special interest group.

I have no desire to pay more for a special little sticker on my produce or meat, nor will I pay more for an obtuse "certification" such as the "Organically Grown" labels. This will only build yet another petty bureaucracy for those chosen to enforce such labeling, and ultimately, pass the price increase on to the consumers.

In a free market society, the farmers need to be able to compete. If they can't compete, they need to get out of the business.

I'm with you. There is absolutely NOTHING WRONG here! I want to know where my food comes from. It allows me a choice as a consumer.
With mad cow disease and questionable farming practices in some backwater countries, I would like the opportunity to be able to turn down purchase of a product based on origin.
BTW... as to bookkeeping and tracking: I have one manufacturer that I rep for who codes every single part that comes into his factory and every item assembled is tracked thru assembly and shipment. IF they can do that they can keep track of the food just as easily. Technology will take care of it.
