Sen. Kirk Supports Discriminating Against Certain Arabs

WASHINGTON -- Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, the Senate's only black member, criticized another lawmaker from his state on Wednesday for published comments on discrimination against young Arabs.

GOP Rep. Mark Kirk was at an event last weekend at Northwestern University when he was asked about the difficulties of the visa process for immigrants. He was quoted by the Chicago Sun-Times as saying: "I'm OK with discrimination against young Arab males from terrorist-producing states. I'm OK with that."

"I think that when we look at the threat that's out there, young men, between, say, the ages of 18 and 25 from a couple of countries, I believe a certain amount of intense scrutiny should be placed on them," Kirk was quoted as saying. "I'm not threatened by people from China. I'm not even threatened by people from Mexico. I just know where the threat is from. It's from a unique place, and I think it's OK to recognize that."

Obama took issue with the comments, which Kirk has confirmed were accurate, according to the (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald.

"I like Mark Kirk, enjoy working with him and believe he cares deeply about our nation's security, but I believe his statement indicates a cavalier attitude towards civil liberties," the Democrat said in a statement to The Associated Press. "His comments do a disservice to the public diplomacy process that's required to win the war on terror."

Messages left Wednesday at Kirk's district and Capitol offices were not immediately returned.

The Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago has urged public officials to repudiate Kirk's remarks.

Obama's office said the senator's statement was not in response to the group.

the public diplomacy process that's required to win the war on terror.

WTF?

Would somebody please describe this "public diplomacy" process?

Where, when, and how has it ever worked?

The headline is wrong. He criticized a Congressman. The Congressman is right. The US doesn't have to give equal access to all nationalities in the world to immigrate to the US.

What does this have to do with Civil Liberties? The world does NOT HAVE A CIVIL RIGHT TO COME TO OUR COUNTRY!!!

We have to have SOME rules about who gets to come here, and we certainly should be careful about letting our enemy into our country.

I used to think Ann Coulter was wrong to call democrats traitors. Now I'm not so sure. They certainly are acting like traitors. I can't imagine a real patriot of this country to argue that we shouldn't keep Germans from emigrating to the united states during WW2, or that we should be a little more cautious about people from NORTH Korea asking to come into our country than Great Britian.

Maybe Barak wants our country to be overrun by Muslims, and to become a muslim state. Maybe we should ask him why he seems to support that. I mean, he's a nice guy and all, but it seems he doesn't understand the idea of borders.

The French still take issue with any anti-Muslim comments, tap dancing around their fragile emotions; and what do the French get in return? Cultural suicide.

If we keep turning a blind eye to the illegal immigrants in this country, we will have the same problem in America as well.

Obama is not only out of touch with reality, he is causing all of us great harm with his attitude. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, has feathers like a duck, chances are it is a duck!! It is about time our African-American Senator from Illinois realizes this and acts accordingly. As it is, he is a complete fool not realizing his own stupidity. Maybe when one of these jihadists cuts his throat, or his wife's, or his childrens', the good Senator will see the light. Until then, he should really just STFU.

Right. I mentally profile them now when I see them. I guess that makes me a bad person.

They aren't so much traitors as they are useful idiots, imo.

A minor detail. He could not capitalize on being half white.

Perhaps if some young Arab male immigrants strike his home state's largest city (which is almost certainly on the AQ target list) the Senator might reconsider--particularly after meeting with large numbers of grieving families.

I think all Obama has going for him (excluding his race) is he is good looking and somewhat articulate. That's his appeal. His views and positions suck.

Actually that's why the Dems like him. He was 'raised white'. He 'acts white'. He's what the Democrats consider a 'good' black person.
