When he went on vacation in August... he never really came back. It's a sad state of affairs right now.

Having just written a post repeating my standard complaint about the GOP not confronting leftists, I will support Bush a bit.

I think Bush laid low because his numbers are down and his taking a high profile in places like California and NJ would only have done more damage. And he has been in this position before. I remember when he was interviewed by Russert and expressed confidence he would be reelected. His numbers were so low and everyone thought Iraq was ssuch a disaster that Bush's confidence was viewed as irrational. So he can still come back. But the lame duck status creates new challenges taht I think require him to be more aggressive.

You commented that the President went on vacation in August and never returned...
I am still annoyed at the lackluster campaign last year which, only by the grace of God, resulted in a second term.
This is a man that I love and respect...if I didn't care it wouldn't bother me to see him and his administration whacked like a pinatta at a third grader's birthday party.
My profound hope is that he will emerge from this difficult period with the fighting spirit our cause requires.

Bad things happen in August. Perhaps next year he might reconsider the length of time he stays in Crawford? Maybe take 2 1/2 weeks at a time?
