VA was a real loss... and watching our Senate Republicans(and Bush himself) piss-away whatever 'capital' he had, in six months, should be a wake-up-call to every member on this forum.
I disagree, though I'm surprised Kilgore lost. Warner was a successful governor, and Kaine ran as the second term of Warner (because of Virginia's one-term governorship). A Kaine loss would have been a repudiation of Warner's success, and that would have hurt the Dems more than a Kilgore loss hurts the GOP. The Lt. Governor is a strong conservative who defeated a very liberal Dem, and the Attorney General is very, very conservative, and hopefully will end up winning (there will be a recount).
So VA is still solidly GOP.
Just got e-mail from my brother in VA. He can't believe how what should have been an easy victory go as another loss.
