Recently, the legislature in Pennsylvania passed a pay raise for the term in which they were serving in violation of Pennsylvania constitution, which prohibits the legislature from raising their own pay during the term they are serving. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court nevertheless approved the pay raise, perhaps due in no small part to the fact that the judges also got a pay raise as part of the deal.
Pennsylvania voters got their first opportuntiy to punish the political establishment today, with the Supreme Court Justices Newman and Nigro coming up for a vote on whether they should be allowed to stay in office. It seems as though Newman has survived, but right now it seems as though Nigro will go down as the first Judge in Pennsylvania history not to be retained, and that he will now pay the price of not doing his duty to uphold the Pennsylvania Constitution.
Oh, my. I can just hear it now --- it was an anti-Nigro vote.
I guess I shouldn't admit that I voted for Newman and against Nigro. Newman is a Republican.
Maybe I'm off the hook then. I voted No on retention of Nigro.I just let him go.

We tried to unseat both, but only got one....well a message is sent anyway....
Don't expect us voters to sit on our hands and watch while you elected people do what you want....it isn't working anymore!!!!

Well I voted against the retention of both judges however I'll settle for just one. 10 Years is enough for any judge (Especially if he's a DemonRat). Let him scramble about to find another way to suck our tax dollars. Unfortunately these people just don't seem to go away!
What we need is a constitution with teeth.
Virtually every state has this clause, there should have been no question about what it meant.
Judges that rule the constitutions do not mean exactly what they say should face some physical punishment if over ruled either by the US supreme court of the Legislature. I mean incarceration, loss of pension, loss of court seat.
Oh well, maybe he'll go down to the Federal Courthouse in Richmond, Virginia. There he'll feel at home as a corrupt judge.<p.
So how are judges picked in PA?
Does the Gov pick a replacement for the defeated judge?
Won't Casey just pick another Democrat?
I voted the same way. I couldn't stomach the idea of giving Fast Eddie Rendell a chance to appoint some scumbag liberal activist Democrat to the Supreme Court to replace a Republican.
