This has been FAR from a GOP wipeout that some have predicted (and even tried to confirm) tonight! Let's look at the facts:

1) Corzine (D) wins NJ Governorship. Forrester was the underdog from day one, and a dem replaces a Dem. No biggie. Still, many assumed Corzine would just walk into the mansion without a fight. Hardly. DEM RETAIN

2) Kaine wins VA Governorship. The night's biggest disappointment. Kilgore had a lead early and lost it. Still, not a switch, but a DEM RETAIN...HOWEVER:

3) Before tonight, the Democrats held two of VA's top three elected offices. After tonight, the REPUBLICANS WILL HAVE 2 OF 3.

4) Mayor Bloomberg (R, sorta) wins big in NYC. Come 2009, the Dems will not have elected a NYC mayor in 20 years.

5) Liberal Democratic three-term mayor of Manchester, NH, Bob Baines, was defeated tonight by Republican Frank Guinta. John kerry, Evan Bayh, and Joe Biden all stupmed for Baines.

6) Let's take these ten state propositions tonight as being the most important for conservatives: the Texas Gay Marriage Amendment PASSED; the four dfem-backed Ohio initiatives ALL FAILED; Props 73, 74, 75, 76, and 77 in California...three of the five PASSING as of now. If things stay as they are, that's 8 out of 10 for our side.

So, isn't this a better night than we might be thinking?

Yep. Though I gotta tell you, the abortion notification and teacher tenure ballots are slipping. What's up with that?

Thanks. Your outline of the wins for conservatives today was better than the big slab of chocolate I thought I'd need to get through the CA returns tonight!

dont forget about the dems spending millions. They're wallets will be much lighter in '06. NJ is now an open seat sorta.

I think the real story is that Arnold made the liberals spend 130 million dollars and even if they sweep, they are out 130 million dollars when 2006 rolls around.

Bravo Arnold.

I view this as the first days of Stalingrad. The dems may seem like they are winning, but they are expending their resources for little or no gain.
