but to date the violence has had nothing to do with Islam.

What are they smoking at the New York Times.
What a bunch of clueless idiots.

They should call a spade a spade and call this a Muslim Intifadah in France.

"Some people blame Nicolas Sarkozy for having worsened the situation with his blunt statements about "cleaning out" the "thugs" from those neighborhoods."

What an uncaring, unenlightened, thing to say. He's nearly as responsible as Bush is for causing the rioting

"To date, the violence has had nothing to do with Islam."

Of course not! The students at Bob Jones University would also be setting fire to women on crutches, if only they had the chance.

" Napoleon didn't have a French Army with a large percentage of Muslims in the ranks. I don't know the numbers, but they are likely substantial."

That's also a likely concern. In their desire to be PC, there have probably seeded muslim soldiers even in "sensitive"
areas--IOW, built their own fifth column.

Sure Craig Smith, just keep repeating over and over....

there is no terrorist threat.....there is no terrorist threat.....

Then take out your magic wand and write that the hate that radicals muslims have preached for centuries never existed , except in our minds.

"...with large North African and Arab populations..." Islamic, for those who are global-awareness challenged. Experts say, huh? Ex as in 'has been' Spurt as in 'drip under pressure'. Burning cars doesn't feed a starving belly. Liberalism is a mental disorder.

"The students at Bob Jones University would also be setting fire to women on crutches, if only they had the chance."

True, true. At the same time, if they are rioting due to poverty, why did they burn a woman? As the King of Jabberwocky would say, I find them guilty of cannibalism.

George Bush is a proponent of Islam, the religion of peace, so, the French need to give these undernourished youths more money.

Your hatred of Bush is pathological. In addition, you're just too dumb to know anything about politics.

They should call a spade a spade and call this a Muslim Intifadah in France.

They have to add that to keep CAIR off their backs.
Why they are afraid of CAIR is beyond me.(arson perhaps?)

"George Bush is a proponent of Islam, the religion of peace..."

Which is why he's invaded two Muslim countries, throwing out the Taliban in one, and could very possibly invade a third to eliminate Khomenistic Islam...right?

I am a proponent of Islam, when its adherents practice a religion of peace, as many hundreds of millions of Muslims do, and I am an advocate of the violent overthrow of any group or government who advocates Islamofascism any where in the world.

"...the violence has had nothing to do with Islam..."

Right.

I guess then we could blame the Rodney King riots, the Miami riots, and other riots in America on Christianity.

After all, the vast majority of rioters were Christians, so it Christianity MUST be at the roots of those riots like Islam is at the root of these.

There already is an Islamist civil war taking place in Algeria. This civil war is largely financed by the drug trade and the smuggling of stolen auto parts. That is the connection between terrorism and the riots. Drugs are being supplied by Islamist rebels in Algeria to gangs of thugs in France. Stolen auto parts are supplied to Algerian gangs with similar terrorist sympathies who sell the parts and use the money from both sources to help finance the insurgency there. Same type of arrangment that was used to finance the KLA in Kosovo (remember) and the Taliban in Afghanistan. A number of other Islamic insurgencies are similarly financed in other parts of the world. Nothing new here.

"The French government has turn France into a training ground for terrorist."

Pretty much.

They have given Islamofascists a glimpse into a future base of operations in Western Europe.

The French government needs to take decisive action to stop what is nearly the inevitable.

If the Democrats manage to pull the U.S. out of Iraq, Afghanistan, and the general region, Israel will fall, Africa will fall, Europe will fall, and it will be left up to the West to stand against Islamofascism, with the outside possibility of the Orient and Russia fighting on our side out of self-preservation.

I find this quote from "The Return of the King" prophetic:

"Stand your ground, stand your ground! Sons of Gondor, of Rohan, my brothers! I see in your eyes, the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come, when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends, and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of wolves, and shattered shields when the age of men comes crashing down! But it is not this day! This day we fight! For all that you hold dear, on this good earth, I bit you stand, men of the west!

Substitute Gondor for Christendom, and Rohan for America and the day may come when this speech will be made.

Another gem from the NYT article:

"But jobs have dried up as the economy slowed - unemployment in some of the zones is as high as 30 percent - and the suburbs have become the French equivalent of America's inner cities."

Not news to see the NYT claiming America preceeded France in creating poverty and depriving the poor of livelihoods. Of course the solution is more socialism....not less. No mention of our new low, 5%, in unemployment - even after the hurricanes.

The most worrisome thing is how many people see the NYT as a reliable source of news.
