How many maxims can we find here...
Andy Rooney is to CBS, as Bill Clinton is to the Oval Office.
Andy Rooney is to Tact, as Dan Rather is to Truth.
Andy Rooney is to Rationality as AlGore is to Animation.
Fire at will....
It's what they still call themselves if you pay any attention to rap, movies, etc. The demonization of words like "Negro," "niggardly," "gay," or "rubbers" (the old term for low-cut overshoes to keep your feet dry in the rain) is the stuff of tiny minds. I don't often agree with Andy but in this case I do.
While staying with a relative in the hospital recently, I overheard a conversation of two women (who were black) visiting another patient, obviously a friend. My ears perked up when the patient (who was white) was talking about going somewhere in a not-so-good neighborhood and being approached by a black man who said "What's the matter, you never seen a black man before?" And she answered to him "I've seen plenty of black men in my life but this is the first n***** I've seen in awhile." Well I nearly fell out of my chair at that but the two black women thought it was hysterical and proceeded to join in with other similar stories. Call me confused; either it's okay to use this word or it isn't.
Actually, I don't have a problem with Negro. I use it all the time. They have the United Negro College Fund.
Heh, I don't like Andy Rooney much -- but I like hyphenating "American" far less.
This isn't unexpected from Rooney. Remember, he's a liberal. He's used to telling people what they're supposed to feel like.
They still call it that? After Richard Pryor's freebasing mishap and Michael Jackson's Pepsi Commercial, I thought it became the "Ignited Negro College Fund".
good one !!
I have been marking the other block the last few years.
One of the funniest things ever on that show.
A few years back I was in a company meeting which had international representation. A person from England referred to someone from China as a Chink. There were a few Japanese-Americans there and they took offense, but according to the person from England it was an appropriate word to use over there.
"MSNBC apologizes to Niger Innis for spelling mistake
Red-faced staffers at MSNBC were still apologizing yesterday for a major spelling goof that appeared on-air Tuesday. During an interview with Republican consultant Niger Innis, who is African-American, a producer, in creating an on-screen graphic, wrote "Nigger Innis." Horrified employees at the NBC-owned cable network caught the gaffe only after it appeared on-screen. (New York Daily News)"
Ever notice how the utterance of my allergies is so important to some people? Political correctness produces the same sensitivities and importance in those less secure.
At one time I as known as Blacky long black hair and beard.
I have no problem with the word negro. I am one, myself. Although, in polite company, I refer to myself as black.
