PARIS (AFX) - Some 400 cars were set on fire in the outskirts of Paris last night, as serious riots in the city's outskirts continued for an eighth consecutive night, the police said.
Police also reported that 27 buses were set on fire at a depot, and that fires were started at a primary school in the district of Stains and at a warehouse in Aulnay-Sous-Bois.
The police also said that for the first time since the riots broke out over a week ago, similar disturbances, although on a smaller scale, took place in other French towns, with several cars being set on fire in Dijon and in the Seine-Maritime and Bouche-du-Rhone regions.
However, the police also said that there were fewer clashes between police and rioters than on Wednesday night.
The riots were triggered last week when two teenagers were electrocuted after hiding in an electrical substation to escape a police identity check in the Parisian suburb of Clichy-sous-Bois.
Nah, he's still stuck with the job.
As I read the article, I waited patiently for the words "Muslim" or "Islam" to pop up but the words never appeared. How biased. Now if it were Christians or Jews rioting...well, that would certainly make the headline, every paragraph and coverage in every lamestream media outlet.
Don't all European cities have signs pictoral signs for everything?
That means that the police are surrendering already.
The first major racially-fueled rebellion of the 1960s, an event that foreshadowed the widespread urban violence of the latter half of the decade.
With the arrest of a 21 year old African American, Los Angeles's South Central neighborhood of Watts erupted into violence. On August 11, 1965, a Los Angeles police officer flagged down motorist Marquette Frye, whom he suspected of being intoxicated. When a crowd of onlookers began to taunt the policeman, a second officer was called in. According to eyewitness accounts, the second officer struck crowd members with his baton, and news of the act of police brutality soon spread throughout the neighborhood. The incident, combined with escalating racial tensions, overcrowding in the neighborhood, and a summer heat wave, sparked violence on a massive scale. Despite attempts the following day aimed at quelling anti police sentiment, residents began looting and burning local stores.
In the rioting, which lasted five days, more than 34 people died, at least 1000 were wounded, and an estimated $200 million in property was destroyed. An estimated 35,000 African Americans took part in the riot, which required 16,000 National Guardsmen, county deputies, and city police to put down.
Although city officials initially blamed outside agitators for the insurrection, subsequent studies showed that the majority of participants had lived in Watts all their lives. These studies also found that the protesters' anger was directed primarily at white shopkeepers in the neighborhood and at members of the all-white Los Angeles police force. The rioters left black churches, libraries, businesses and private homes virtually untouched.
The Watts Riot was the first major lesson for American public on the tinderbox volatility of segregated inner-city neighborhoods.
I really love what someone wroye earlier on a different thread, "French Out of France"
President Jacques Chirac and Premier de Villepin are especially sore because they had believed that their opposition to the toppling of Saddam Hussein in 2003 would give France a heroic image in the Muslim community. That illusion has now been shattered and the Chirac administration, already passing through a deepening political crisis, appears to be clueless about how to cope...

They've let it go on so long because the destruction has been isolated to Muslim neighborhoods. If it spreads outside to the French neighborhoods you can guarantee it will be quashed real quick.
And bringing back the "National Razor."
Muslims bring to Europe what they have to the middle east for millenia.... And french government still coddles. Grow some nuts.. send in the troops, shoot to kill.
Exactly. We're supposed to be all atwitter because the French hate us.
Busses run about .5 Mil each US, I'm sure they are that much or more in gay paris....Send in the troops, bloodbath is the only thing that resonates. Take the old Jordan King's method used on the Palestinians....
Why leftist cannot accept that not all world views are equal is beyond me. THe longer the government of France waits to put this crap down, the uglier and bloodier its going to be.
You do not let the inmates run the asylum.
The MSM and the left simply believe in adding another disasterous policy to 'fix' the previous disasterous policy.....and on it goes.
I'm really hoping this will be a wake-up call for France (and the rest of Europe). The French police are probably restraining themselves because, so far, nobody has been killed (short of the 2 dimwitts who were hiding out in the power station). If people start dying (particularly French people) I'd like to think that the French will crack some skulls.
The MSM doesn't pull punches when those crazy Christians are involved -- can't be too careful. CNN would interview every evangelical with a southern accent - trot them out for exhibition. Scare the liberals with "hate talk against a religiouse group ( Christians are fair game. Right? Cover that breaking news, CNN. Yep, the media knows the bad ones. But burning Paris down? Who knows who's behind that? And with our media, who cares?
They've done little if anything as Muslims have gang raped their French sisters, forgive me if I don't hold out belief that the government of France has the fortitude to do what is needed.
By faith and honor,
Our madams mock at us, and plainly say
Our mettle is bred out, and they will give
Their bodies to the lust of English youth
To new-store France with bastard warriors.
