I was wondering what this movie is going to be like....
Enough said.
I heard it was going to be anti-military garbage.
I hang out (also) at a forum for former Marines. The general consensus seems to be that this is going to be a slanderous stinker.
The trailers and sound tracks are good.
"part poetic meditation on the murderous impulses of men at war"
hmmm........
Sounds like its a movie based on regular folks (as much as Hollywood can stand) and not some Hollywood anti-Bush, anti-war propagandha film. The MSM reviewers wanted the blood of GWB not enemy soldiers and so they are disappointed.
I've never read the book but everyone that I know who has read it (about 10 people) have said the book is great. I'll wait to see the movie before I make judgements about it (radical I know, but it just may work).
Jake Gyllenhaal? From "Bubble Boy"? What a talent.
The trailer I caught a glimpse of on TV the other day led me to believe its some sort of military bashing flick.
If thats the consensus I will be sure to miss it.
Being a former Marine, I wouldn't taken anything serious that is put out by the Hollywood idiots especially when it comes to my beloved Corps.
Semper Fi'
If you respects our troops you won't pay to see this.
A number of Marines wrote to the WSJ when this book came out accusing the author of printing urban legends (military version) as truth and other wise slamming the Corps with untruths.
If you are wondering what kind of movie this is, just google Jake Gyllenhaal. He and his sister are out front for every leftist cause under the sun, so you can bet this is not going to show the military in any kind of good light.
Good, naive kid joins the Marines. Sees combat, sees the enemy dying, sees fellow Marines dying, returns home disillusioned...questions his beliefs, questions the direction America is heading, decides war is bad, decides America is headed down the wrong path.
I may be wrong, but I don't think so.
A quick check on "open secrets" website of major political contributions shows that, in the 2002-2004 election cycle, Jarhead writer William Broyles gave $2500 to the far Left "American Coming Together" (ACT) and at least $4,000 to Democrats. Produer Douglas Wick gave $9,000 to Democrats and $1500 to Liberal Republicans such as Arlen Specter. Producer Lucy Fisher gave some $30,000 to Democrats. Star Jake Gyllenhaal didn't give any large sums, but hard-left sister Maggie gave $1,000 to John Kerry and father Stephen (a producer) gave $2,000 to Democrats.
I guess we can guess this movie's political slant.
Is Kirk Cameron in it?
I'm looking fwd to 'State of Fear', the movie.
Martin Sheen's character, 'President What'shisname' is eaten alive by cannibals.
Series.
Rotten tomatoes has 6 reviews. 3 for 3 against or 50%.
Not a good start. Ill pass.
Hollywood just wastes my time with the crap they put out now.
