The America haters from Code Pink(o) are at Walter Reed every Friday night with despicable messages for our wounded soldiers and their families. Yes, I question their patriotism. Thank goodness the DC FReepers are there to represent us and show soldiers that Americans really care and are appreciative.
Here is an idea that I hope some of you think has merit. I want to flood Walter Reed with greeting cards of support for our wounded soldiers. Everyone knows how good it makes you feel to get a card, especially one that is unexpected.
If you would like to participate, for the first 50 FReepers, I will pay for a card and postage for you if you will take the time to get on your computer and write some words of support. This is a real card, not a computer card. It literally will take only about five minutes or so to do. You don't have to do anything except go to the site with the code I give you, choose a card, type a message, and click.
I have an account with a company that sends out greeting cards. There are many choices, and you can use their words or override with your own. You can also add your message on the inside left. It is the easiest way in the world to send greetings, and I am sending cards like never before for both business and personal reasons. Christmas cards this year are probably only going to take about 30 minutes, because I have the names and addresses programmed in the system. The info gets sent to a computer at midnight (or when you designate), it gets printed the next day, and it is sent out with a real stamp. The cost is only $.98 plus postage.
I spoke with the Red Cross office this morning at Walter Reed. The woman, of course, liked the idea. I will pay for the first 50 people who want to participate.
Perhaps an anonymous soldier who receives a card will write back and become a new penpal. Even if no one ever writes back, you will know that you gave a soldier something that let him know someone is grateful. It will make him feel good.
If this is a lame idea and no one wants to participate, that's fine. I'll send out the 50 cards myself.
If you think this has merit and you might be interested in taking a few minutes to participate, please check in on this thread and I'll send you FReepmail with instructions.
Doug, that's a very fine idea. I am up for it. Do I freepmail you? V's wife.
I think that's a great idea. But I want to pay for the card myself. How should I address the envelope?
Definitely interested, dfu.
I would like to participate.
Count me in. Thanks for the initiative.
Yep, ditto - don't need Doug to pay for it - just need the instructions.
Doug, this is a great idea!! I hope you get at least 1000 responses!
I want to pay too....
Just let me know how and where to send the message.
Hi Doug,
Just the infor please. Will pay for card.
Ping
Can we send cards our selves? through the USPO?
I'd love to do this as well. Is it possible to post the addressing information? I wouldn't mind doing some the old-fashioned way!
Please give us Walter Reed's address....I'll be sending a card today!! Maybe more!!
let me know how to send 'em out .. and as seems to be the trend, no reimbursement is necessary
Wonderful idea. But it sounds like many of us don't want you to have to pay for our cards, so could you advise us as to how to go through the process to pay ourselves?
Thanks again for pointing out what Code Pink is doing, and how we can help our servicemen see that so many of us greatly appreciate their sacrifice.
Please send info only. No need for $. Thanks
Great idea - and with the holidays coming up cards can be seasonal as well as get well. Where do we send them?
