Then again, there are many in DC who really only use conservatives as an election tool. On the one hand, they will placate us publicly. And behind closed doors, they'll try to work out subtle ways to undermine true conservatives.

I think many, if not most, politicians are actors, and simply pick the role they think they can play most convincingly on the public stage.

Once in office, the real objective is power, and the favors that can be extended to one's supporters through the use of governmental connections

Right. Most politicians like all the cash that flows through DC. That's why they are there. It infests both parties. The superiority of the GOP is only marginal. And the true patriots of the GOP are having to pay off the corrupt members big time for long term solutions.
