I was pretty sure Bush would nominate Gonzales, because he's a personal friend, his name has been floated several times in the past and he'd be confirmable (because he's definitely on the RINO side).

I'm glad he didn't, and now I hope the pundit class gets behind this nominee and puts as much energy into attacking the Dems and their RINO supporters as they put into attacking Miers.

I never thought President Bush would nominate Gonzales. I don't see him as spiteful. Stong-willed, sure, but not spiteful.

I suspect the conservative pundit class will be MORE energized in support of the Alito nomination than it was against the Miers nomination. Miers was a warm-up. ;-)

I predicted after Miers withdrew that it would be forever impossible to nominate AG because of the issues of "Executive Privilege" which was the rationale given for Miers' withdrawal.
