You better thank your lucky stars that we 'unappeasables' are out there. Now we have a decent candidate.

I hope they are wrong, at least in certain respects, about the
Scalito nickname. I'm more of a
Thomas kind of guy myself. Maybe Judge Alito has read a few things by
Madison. Let's hope.
The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite. The former will be exercised principally on external objects, as war, peace, negotiation, and foreign commerce; with which last the power of taxation will, for the most part, be connected. The powers reserved to the several States will extend to all the objects which, in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, liberties, and properties of the people, and the internal order, improvement, and prosperity of the State. The operations of the federal government will be most extensive and important in times of war and danger; those of the State governments, in times of peace and security. As the former periods will probably bear a small proportion to the latter, the State governments will here enjoy another advantage over the federal government. The more adequate, indeed, the federal powers may be rendered to the national defense, the less frequent will be those scenes of danger which might favor their ascendancy over the governments of the particular States. If the new Constitution be examined with accuracy and candor, it will be found that the change which it proposes consists much less in the addition of NEW POWERS to the Union, than in the invigoration of its ORIGINAL POWERS. The regulation of commerce, it is true, is a new power; but that seems to be an addition which few oppose, and from which no apprehensions are entertained.

Let's see, he graduated with a BA from Princeton and a JD from Yale. That is a definite plus for Buckley and the National Review on Line pack. Makes it unlikely they will trash him, but the Democrats now that is just a different story. Most likely Kristol, Frum, Podorhetz, Limbaugh and Will can be counted on to follow NRO's lead.
Really quite simple. Avoid SMU and suck up to Yale for a start. Up with the Catholics down with the Evangelicals. Need a judge to read the simple, directly written Constitution now mandatory. Check with the pundits and the bloggers (especially John Fund and Peggy Noonan of the WSJ) who now determine the SCOTUS nominee. The President, after all, is just the sign off figure for TPTB. The RATS are going to have some fun with this one.
All those who wanted the "nuclear option" now have it. But has anyone thought we might lose. Nuclear war is painful--even the knuckle dragging, Neanderthals from the Red states know that.

I like what I'm hearing this morning. Sounds like a great choice. Now let's put it to the Dims. I'm glad Pres. Bush didn't try to be politically correct and base his pick on ethnicity or gender. He picked a conservative.
To: kcvl
Alito has a judicial history, and Harry Reid doesn't want him named. Those are two things already in Alito's favor.
Now, when Kerry, Kennedy, Pelosi, Boxer, and hClinton decry naming Alito, we will know he is a much better choice than Miers was.

Bush made a mistake with Miers.
He was given a mulligan.
And he has now hit a HOLE-IN-ONE to win the Masters (to maintain the golf metaphor...)
or if you prefer baseball metaphors:
He has hit a GRAND SLAM HOMERUN to win the World Series.
Let the Dimocrat Baying begin.....
Congratulations to Mr. Alito and to President Bush, and come to think of it, to all Americans!!

So this is what standing up for what you believe and freedom feels like.
Man is it going to get ugly. The lies and projections are going to be jaw dropping from the left. The unchallenged comments against this administration and the nominee are going into heavy rotation on all MSM outlets.
I see this as nothing short of a battle for the soul of our country. The founding fathers must have stopped turning and smiled today.

This is an Excellent pick. I was very opposed to the Miers pick, but this will bring me back to the "reservation".
To: kcvl
I had Alito pegged early on, before the Roberts nominiation. I never dreamed I'd get my wish! Luttig may be a bit younger, but Alito is just as solid. I'm thrilled this morning!

Good pick! Now it's time to have a good old fashioned political brawl with Schumer, Leahy, Kennedy, Biden, Reid, Ralph Neas and moveon.org. GO FOR IT!

Just heard on the news that Senator Reid "strenuously objects" to this nomination. Sounds like Alito is a good man.
To: kcvl
The name Sam is usually short for the male given name 'Samuel', or the female given name 'Samantha'. Samuel comes from a Hebrew word which means "name of God" or "heard by God". Other variations of the name include 'Samuelson', 'Samson', and 'Samwise'.
