My Halloween dream Monday night is going to involve a big party and lots of vodka.

"Those strangers will smile at our foolishness, express interest in our chosen characters, and drop candy in our bags."
Some of those strangers will lock the gate to the front door entrance, turn off all the lights to seem not home, hide in a back room somewhere and do whatever and enjoy the fact that they do not have to answer the doorbell 300 times that night.

When I was a kid decades ago, I never viewed Halloween as scary despite the imagery. I thought it was just silly fun. Once I put a "ghost" in the picture window of my house by tying a handkerchief around a wad of paper towel and connecting the whole thing with a string slung over the curtain rod and then duct taped to the turntable of a portable phonograph (which would twist the string and cause the "ghost" to rotate). Now, it's disgustingly explicit, as America's threshold of being shocked rises higher and higher. I really don't want to hear sounds that might be of a rape from some gadget that looks like a huge gravestone when I'm visiting my local Walgreens, thank you very much.

"Halloween.
The festival of sowen. The last great one took place three thousand years ago when the hills ran red, with the blood of aminals and children"
"Sacrifices."
"Part of our world. Our craft."
"Witchcraft."
"To us it was a way of controlling our environment. It's not so different now. In the end, we don't decide these things, you know. The planets do. They're in alignment and it's time again. The world's going to change tonight, doctor. I'm glad you'll be able to watch it."
Leave it to a weirdo named Flagg to remember these lines from this forgettable movie twenty two years ago.
