He is going over the top with five counts but I cannot believe the people on here defending him for (alleged) lying to the FBI and GJ.

Agreed, Mom - if the charges are true, then he will get what he deserves.

I hope for a vigorous discovery by his defense counsel and an acquittal on all charges.

Libby hasn't had a trial yet to defend himself

Alleged is the key word.

Libby deserves due process and is basically innocent at the moment.

Looking forward to hear what his defense is.

My bet is the prosecutor is not in possession of a stained blue dress.

I don't get the sense that anybody is defending Libby for lying.

We're just saying that, after everything Fitz was supposed to be investigating, and how serious it all was, these charges are the equivalent of spitting on the sidewalk.

He's bringing charges so he won't be accused of wasting 24 months and $2 million.

If Libby intentionally lied to the investigators under oath, he should be smacked - though I'd expect the sentencing to be at the lighter end of the spectrum if just.

Look, if Libby was lying to the investigators, he should have his hand smacked for that alone. Nonetheless, from listening to what Fitzgerald was saying, there are several logic gaps. Maybe things will match up when the case is made, but at this time there are several instances where he is arguing that "if A notequal B; notA = B".

Further, aside from the possible lying by Libby, Wilson was attempting to misuse the law protecting CIA agents identities as a shield against uncovering his lies. It is a total and complete abuse of the law to even denounce someone as violating it for defending themselves against false accusations, and frankly, I question Fitzgerald's ethics for not making that clear.

My thought on the five counts is that Fritz want it to go to trial......Bring out more information....Which is not necessarily bad for our side.

I can understand the instinctive reaction, though. Wait for people to calm down a little. Breaking news does things to people.

I was wracking my brain to figure out why he would tell such an obvious and checkable (see notes) lie.

It would be rational if he were trying to keep the GJ from calling Cheney. If he'd said right off, "Cheney told me", then the veep would have been before the committee. Now, Libby gets all the heat.

I can't say it was a bad strategy, given the dog and pony show it's become.

Why shouldn't we defend him? As far as I'm concerned he is innocent up until he is found guilty. I don't believe for a minute that is going to happen...
