It sure is a mess -- would have thought anyone in the WH would have avoided the NY Times like they had the plague!

In an ideal world where the New York Times wasn't influential and taken as gospel by those who think they are "in the know", a Republican president could tell his staff not to speak with their reporters. But we don't live in that perfect world.

The White House has to speak to the MSM. If they don't, their political enemies will have the first bite at the apple, framing what they think is the "news" in the worst possible way to the administration.

It's a dirty job, but somebody has to do it.

Another quick thought, for some reason the name "scooter" is cute and non threatening to the average citizen, and the guy is walking on crutches with a walking cast type gizmo on his left foot. How about this? Why in the world would Scooter Libby walk into the GJ and tell them he heard about Wilson's wife working at the CIA from Russert, when there are multiple pieces of evidence that he had discussed her with various government officials previously? Why in the world would he tell the GJ that he didn't even know if he had a wife at the time, when there is apparently a raft of testimony from others that, not only did he know she had a wife, but knew where she worked?
