It is not a crime to lie to reporters but it sure is a crime to repeat that lie to the FBI and GJ. I know what you mean, but that's not said quite right. He can repeat the lie to the FBI and the GJ, he just can't present it as a summary of what happened. It is, however, up to the prosecutor to ask the question clarifying the difference. If he says to the GJ that he told reporters that Russert told him about Plame, then that is not a lie if Russert didn't tell him about Plame. It is only a lie if he didn't tell the reporters that - though that can be pretty hard to prove.
I know from experiments that many many people don't hear what is actually said. The source of "other reporters" is utterly unimportant and not likely to be recalled by people digging for information from Libby. We have accounts of how mangled Miller's notes are compared to what happened in meetings.

Boies was a Gore attorney. And several of his presentations fell apart because his legal team gave false information to the experts that were to testify.

I suppose it came down to 2 or 3 against 1...
Personally, I wouldn't believe a reporter who said the sky is blue. Not without fact checking it myself.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if Valerie Plame had been covert withing the meaning of the statute, somebody - maybe many people - would have been indicted a long time ago. To paraphrase George Tenet, it would have been a "slam-dunk". What are you talking about? What does that have to do with anything I said. Someone wanted to bring Valerie Plame into this and my question was so Libby is going to use I had to lie the FBI and the grand jury because Wilson lied? Somehow I dont see how that gets off the charge that he obstructed justice, made false statements and committed perjury. YOu do note that Wilson is not charged? Duh?
To: PhiKapMom
Exactly which makes me question what Libby was up to with the NY Times. This whole thing is a mess.

Hey, I bailed on this thing when my daughter came by and we decided to go to the grocery. I figure someone will have the transcript and we can decipher it then. I just flat out couldn't understand it, and I have no problem with fast talkers. It was the words strung together just didin't make sense to me.
I am now going to meet my grandkids when they get off the bus. Back in about 3 hours.

There was a rogue CIA under Tenent which needs investigating -- is this what was dumped in Fitz's lap this week by Rove's attorneys? I just have the feeling there is more to this then meets the eye. While this may be plausible, I got the impression the internal CIA investigation is not being handled by Fitz, though they are perhaps swapping evidence (presuming that to be legal... I'm no lawyer).
And as far as a CIA internal probe, I would expect any charges arising from that would be classified, and any prosecutions handled totally in secret, through the proper channels, of course.
To: B Knotts
That sort of thing is not healthy for the Republic. Exactly. And as I've said before, it sets a terrible example for young people.

Mark ripping again about how Fitz took an hour in this presser to rip Libby for charges that he was never charged with ... and then how Mark had to hear on the radio news that Libby was charged for outting a CIA Agent
Mark is mad

I question the ethics of not digging further into Wilson as well. I didn't mean simply not digging. Fitzgerald uses the implications for a basis of how serious the disclosure of Plame was.

> President Cheney sounds good to me. LOL!
Of course, you are hitting on the only victory the Dems can call today, and that is that they damaged Cheney's chances for the next election, were he to be considering it. Guilt by association will be played to the hilt by the MSM.
To: onyx
Gergen has always been a nasty turncoat, just ask Bush 41 and "Bar". He is not a Pubbie and never will be, we do not want him. I believe that the Dems may have screwed themselves because there are still three years left in this Bush Administration, and there are all kinds of things coming out about Dems wrongdoing. Hillary is going to be facing a Civil Trial where they can bring up a lot of things in discovery that can be serious enough to warrant a special prosecutor, and Gonzalez will be appointing that SP I believe. Just think about all the things the dems do that are crooked and we know that if we appoint a SP to investigate there will be charges, not every Dem that knows where bodies are buried will do a Webb Hubbell falling on his sword routine. This is amounting to a challenge for the Pajama Brigade, and I believe we are ready.
