Libby IS a criminal defense lawyer. It may seem dumb for him to go before a GJ without the advice of counsel, but he's been through it with clients many times before and probably thought he didn't need to waste his money when he knew exactly what a lawyer would say to him anyway. Now that he has been charged, he needs a lawyer to help him decide whether to fight or plead.
IMO, Fitz wants Libby to rat out Rove and he thinks Libby has info on Rove he isn't telling. That's why he won't close the investigation.

I don't know anything about Libby. I'm just reacting to what this guy is saying, and what is in the indictment. It seems really weak.

Went outside for some sunshine. Came back in to the presser. Man is his face stiff.

Fitzy is sounding like Hans Blix when he realized his job is finished but is in denial.
To: Sam Hill
You are not kidding. He didn't even answer the question about why there was no charge is releasing the name of a covert operative. He's also saying that we don't know the reason why her name was released. Anyone with a brain knows that it was to counter the argument that her husband was sent to Niger by the vice-pres. I am surprised at how partisan this man is sounding.

He came right out saying they KNEW her cover was blown, they questioned how to pursue it, etc etc.
The basic premise the investigation is based on, is wrong.
Good Lord.

Sounds like Rove is definitely off the hook.

Fitz keeps talking about how serious the leak was and appears not to realize that his indictment of Libby is not about that.

"So what is the purpose of this presser?"
You can't run for office if people don't know your name and what you look like.
BTW, aren't the DNC's reporters' questions revealing about their agenda? LOL
To: dirtboy
I just read the indictment. I'd been under the imprssion that Fitzgerals was competent and apolitical. I no longer labor under such an impression.
A bad joke.
Not only has he inserted himself into the political process, he has aligned himself with Tim Russert. LOL
Freaking incredible. He said this, he said that. And not a word about whether Valerie Plame was covered or not covered under the underlying charge.
Moreover, the indictment contains only one side of the Wilson/Niger story. He completely ignores the Senate Intel Committee finding that Wilson's trip actually supported the assertion that Sadddam was looking for uranium down in those parts. And no mention of the 9/11 commission finding that Wilsonis basically a lying sack of crap.
Bush administration should come after this garbage with guns blazing.
To: All
What a vindictive a-hole.
Seriously. Senators have also leaked REAL covert agents' identities.
This is a partisan witchhunt and this is an uglier episode in America than poor communists blacklisted in "the Red Scare".

So what is the purpose of this presser? I have no idea
Isikoff says that it sounds like Fitz know who the leaker is and wants to know why he didn't charge

The root cause is J.Wilson
He lied when he said Cheney's office recommend him to take a trip to Africa {The results he lied about}.
S.Libby spread the truth about who sent J.Wilson to Africa - and this is a crime?
