I don't believe there is anything in the papers that says she was covert. If there had been, he would have filed an indictment on the initial charge. Did you see something in the papers about the GJ saying she was covert?
To: BigSkyFreeper
EXACTLY! There was no "outing" as we all knew. If Libby needlessly lied during the investigation, he must have had reason to cover his own ass for something. Not sure what that was.

That's exactly right and thanks for reminding me of that.
Fitz said that Plame's status was classified. Not covert.

Media covered up the Berger deal and Hillary got a total pass.
I didn't think that the President should have asked for a special prosecutor to begin with either. I thought that was a move that could bite the WH. Then some idiot at DOJ gave the guy all kinds of special powers to go wherever he wanted.
Don't understand why Libby would have lied (if he did) to the GJ -- he had to know someone was going to catch him in a lie.

Rove may very well wish for the opportunity to prove his innocence. However, the president's power to pardon is plenary, except in the case of impeachment. During the constitutional convention it was proposed that the power be limited to cases where the pardonee had been convicted; however, that limitation was expressly rejected. The president can pardon any person (other than an impeached person) at any time. He needn't wait for a trial and conviction. Thus, GWB cold pardon Rove for all crimes he may have committed during Fitz's investigation.
Legally, the president could keep Rove on after a pardon. Politically, it might be difficult. But, again, the president could point to Rove's invaluable service to him in time of war. The MSM would go crazy. The dems would go nuts. But the president could say that unless Fitz has the basis to charge Rove for "outing" Valarie Plame, he's not going to let a prosecution go forward.

Has the GJ said that?
Nobody has mentioned it yet.

that Fitzgerald's MO is to stick witnesses w/a perjury charge when he had no case. That would be the only thing that would justify why this investigation has gone on as long as it has. 2 years and 1 person gets indicted, and it's a guy I never heard of until about a month ago.

Just like Hillary did (94 times?), Libby should have just said "I don't recall". "I don't remember". Then none of this would have happened.

Either that or this perjury charge is bogus. Unfortunate he resigned. I figured Libby would have said "HELL NO!" and stayed in and fought.

CNN said the indictment says that Plame's status was classified, not covert. I don't know whether that is accurate reporting and haven't read the indictment yet.
But if it is true that she was classified vs. covert, we can't expect the MSM to make the distinction again because classified is such a lesser status.

Fitzgerald is now essentially the Dems "attorney general in absentia" - he's the leader of their own parallel Justice Department.
