Gonzales? You mean he wants to go through this whole thing again?

Don't be so excited. Get ready for Gonzalez. Wouldn't that just be a spite pick? He knows how we would take that. More headaches he doesn't want. My bet is he picks someone we like just to get it over with.

"Get ready for Gonzalez."
But he has the same internal Administration documents problem that was the reason for Meirs' withdrawal. They have to pick someone not currently serving in the Administration.

"Don't be so excited. Get ready for Gonzalez." He might want to nominate Gonzalez--but Gonzalez will have exactly the same problem as Miers, if the "access to confidential White House documents" is really the reason (or even the "reasonable" excuse) for her withdrawal.

Don't bet on that. The "internal documents" issue can be used against Gonzalez. Since the White House withdrew one nominee over that issue, the Dems could use it against Gonzalez. I'm betting on somebody from outside the administration, either an academic (Douglas Kmiec of Pepperdine, for example) or a sitting judge.

Don't be so excited. Get ready for Gonzalez. The President withdrew Miers based upon the idea that he could not release WH documents. Gonzalez would face this same barrier. OTOH, Gonzalez has a record to look at apart from his WH activities.

If conservatives were unhappy with an unknown like Miers,
Gonzales would create a barn burning.
He is much better known, and disliked.
